The Guile theme goes with everything. Like any character in Street Fighter, Guile, the most popular American military character in the fighting game franchise, has his own musical theme. This theme, it turns out, much like drugs, enhances EVERYTHING. Once YouTube found this out, they started putting his theme to everything from viral videos, to movie scenes, to TV intros, to even some of the greatest tragedies in human history. So, in honor of the 24th anniversary of Street Fighter this month (August, 2011), in all its glory, here's the best of the Guile Theme Goes with Everything meme. Because it really does go with everything.
Before we get started, here's some quick context. The Guile theme was created in 1991, 4 years after the first Street Fighter game came out in August of 1987. Street Fighter II is really the game that made Guile and the Street Fighter franchise, cultural icons.
One day, decades later, a YouTube user by the name GuileThemeFitsAll posted video mash-ups (some of which are featured on this list) of random TV scenes, movies and viral videos with the Guile theme in them. Thus, the meme was born.
So here, in a list you can add to yourself in case any are missing, is the best of the Guile Theme Fits All meme.
The Little Superstar Video
This little guy is a YouTube legend and easily one of the most recognizable viral videos of all time.
But dear Lord does it go better set to the Guile theme. It's less disconcerting at that point, and a little more inspiring.
When you realize that you aren't going to be put into a life-long prison of being responsible for a rugrat you've spawned due to a drunk hookup, this is the only reasonable reaction. And it must be set to the Guile theme.
Guile Theme Goes with The Walker Texas Ranger Opening Credits
The opening credits of Walker Texas Ranger belong in the 80s yet, somehow, were made in the 90s.
Our leftover cultural naivety dictated that people stopping and looking at the camera was still a good idea. So, the Guile theme has come along to the rescue.
This theme can make anything seem like it's from the 80s. Especially 80s shows.
The synchronicity of this video from that movie about those terrifying baby dolls little girls seem to be into is what gets it on this list.
With the American flag in the background, and Guile being a military man, nothing seems more fitting than a performance like this. It seems almost as if this came right out of a "welcome home" celebration for Guile himself.
The best part is when they start kicking along to the beat.
There are few things on this earth greater than the action movies coming out of India. With the imagination of an 8 year old boy who just got a new set of toys, they show us why America's fallen so far behind on action and why Michael Bay's movies are crap.
Why aren't we producing stuff like this? And why aren't we setting it to the Guile theme, so it has an 80s, Super-Action feel?
This girl had a really bad (good?) trip at a pool, so she started dancing to the foreign techno music that was going on in the pool area. She really started going nuts, but she didn't seem to be going along with the music.
What could she have possibly had in her head? What was she REALLY dancing to?
Guile Theme Goes with That One KFC Commercial (for 10 Hours)
This particular video is from a KFC commercial where a guy dances with two fried chicken drumsticks while seemingly eating them. He's dancing with them while eating them. And someone decided to not only put this to the Guile theme (because it goes with everything), but they decided to loop the video. For 10 hours. This is a 10 hour version of this joke. This is why the internet was invented.
Give this video a few seconds. The Stromtroopers dancing is one thing, but as soon as Darth Vader starts popping and locking, the Guile theme is done a great justice.
Nothing short of Darth Vader dancing with Stormtrooper backup dancers is good enough to please the Gods of the Guile theme.
Salieri (from Amadeus) Describes the Guile Theme's Beauty
This is a beautiful song, the Guile theme. It's not even up for debate. But if it were, this video of Salieri (from the Mozart biopic "Amadeus") would put anyone debating this fact in their place.
This is not only super appropriate because Jean Claude Van Damme actually played Guile in the Street Fighter movie from the 90s (which is fondly remembered by many as something they want to forget), but because the moments where the song actually gets kind of jazzy, Van Damme really starts to get down in one of the greatest post-training-montage scenes in film history.
Remember the video of that weird fat baby scooting along the floor, making barking sounds and acting borderline inhuman?
Well, what if it were set to the Guile theme? The answer: it would be more awe-inspiring, instead of how currently nightmare-inspiring it is. This baby has to be an alien in real life.
Susan Boyle touched our hearts, minds and loins when she sang like an angel on Britain's Got Talent. She showed that she really had what it takes to be famous, even after people expected very little to nothing from her.
So, because of how hard she pwned the superficial world, she deserves to have sang the Guile theme instead what she did sing. If I could go back in time I would give her this one piece of advice.
If there's anything mightier than the Guile theme (there isn't), it's America. And nothing says American like the Guile theme over the Captain America trailer. If this movie were made in the 80s, this could be its theme song. And at least there'd be real action in it.
Cheesy 70s/80s TV intros really lend themselves to the cheesiness of the Guile theme, but none of them do it better than The A-Team. This honestly could've been the actual theme song.
When you've gotta put a civilian in line, sometimes, you can't think about what society deems as "wrong". Sometimes, you've just gotta act.
And that's what this guy did. And he did it with a straight face. And then walked off like a boss. To the Guile theme (this did not actually play in real life, but it really should have).
In this epic scene where Bruce Lee fights Chuck Norris with his cat around him, fewer songs would fill the empty air better than one of the greatest fighting themes of all time (closely seconded by that of the Ultimate Warrior).
Fewer moments call for insane celebration than when you get a new car from a game show.
The Guile theme should be public domain so that they can play it whenever anyone wins anything. Even when you're in your underwear at home, covered in Chex Mix and have just won $2 from a scratch ticket.
Alright, so absolutely ANY scene from "To Catch a Predator" is awesome. But when the pwnage is handed out by Chris Hansen, how much better would the show be if they started playing the Guile theme?
"Won't you have a seat over there?..." *DAH DAH DAH DUN-DUH DAAAAAH*
This one's for any "bronies" out there. It's a moment in which a pony must perform something called the Sonic Rainboom. Needless to say, this pony has a lot of hard work ahead of him; but when he finally achieves that Sonic Boom status, the Guile theme not only fits him, but makes the show seem watchable.
So, a water pipe burst and started lifting an entire car once.
Someone decided to film it, and when they did, they added some color commentary. And then the internet added the Guile theme because of just how hard that water pipe is owning that car.
This guy has to be a robot. He's achieving something that few men can do well and he's doing it for free on the streets. If there's anything the Guile theme has taught us, it's that men who do their best work on the streets deserve recognition.
So here it is. Prepare to be dazzled, amazed and prepare to have your skin melt right off your bones.
Guile Theme Goes with Obama Announcing Osama's Death
When President Barack Obama announced that Osama bin Laden had been killed, he walked away in one of those insanely-badass ways he could have. He was like a cowboy who'd just booted all the bad guys out of town, riding into the sunset.
But in this awesome video of his reaction (doing flips), nothing would have been more appropriate than the Guile theme.
If you set this insanely overdramatic, needlessly artsy and hopelessly terrible part of this movie to the Guile theme, it actually makes it BETTER. Which is really telling you something, honestly, about this movie.
Love is a Battlefield is a Pat Benatar song that has a video that fits the tone of the Guile theme perfectly.
That and it cuts away to some weird, excited looking dude all the time. If I could time travel anywhere, I would time travel to the 80s. Because people had no standards back then.
Fat kids doing anything poorly is cause for most people to laugh, even fat kids themselves. But a fat kid dancing like the people in Flashdance to a slow, soothing, mentally-inspiring song like the Guile theme?
This is comedy gold. Also, there's a surprise at the end.
An organic fit into this meme, a two creatures fighting make great imagery to the song that inspires one to not only fight, but to overcome all obstacles.
When someone turns on the awesome, the only safe assumption to make is that the Guile theme belongs there as the soundtrack to whatever's going on. So, in one of the most memorable/iconic parts of the Lord of the Rings franchise, Gandalf sacrifices himself to get rid of the Balrog.
This is when the Guile theme starts. Instead of saying "Fly you fools" he should've said "dance, you fools". Because they should have.
