He's envied by many. He's always one-upping you. He's on television. He is... the Most Interesting Man in the World
and now he has something else you don't have, his very own meme. The Most Interesting Man in the World meme expands on the popular commercial for Dos Equis beer featuring a man even Chuck Norris would be jealous of.
The meme follows the same trend as the commercials with the Most Interesting Man in the World but changes the trademark line of each ad. Instead of saying, "I don't always drink beer, but when I do, it's Dos Equis," the meme takes on a variety of daily activities, then takes them to the next level such as "I don't always _______, but when I do, ______."
The Dos Equis man is so interesting, that other people, and even fictional characters, have jumped on the meme. The meme even jumped from the format of simple text over an image to video. NBA player Steve Nash has filmed a spoof while President Barack Obama
, Chewbacca and others have been used in the meme images.
In case you're unaware of the Most Interesting Man in the World, he made us feel inadequate for the first time back in 2006 when the Mexican beer brand Dos Equis debuted the short commercials. Featuring character actor Jonathan Goldsmith, the spots went viral, prompting a "Stay Thirsty My Friends" website and a full tour.
Two successful nationwide tours followed, as did more television commercials, which expanded to air across the United States in 2009. Each commercial topped the next, with the Most Interesting Man in the World becoming perhaps the most-envied man on earth.
While us normal folk will never be close to as interesting as the Dos Equis man, we can sure pretend by making our own images for this Internet meme. Stay meme-tastic my friends.
