Exactly that. I'm not going to make a distinction between supporting and leading. Nor even if you consider it a cameo. If I think it's worth, it's included.

Remember also I may have NOT seen your fave, so suggest rather than insult.

The Joker (Heath Ledger) in The Dark Knight

Even if he didn't die, he probably would be still my number one of the year. What he did with The Joker, is something that will be teached in Film and Acting schools for years.
  2. 2
One of the three right decissions of the Academy. How long since actually 3 out of 4 acting awards went to the right people and for the right turns? It took her plenty of noms, but Hanna Schmitz finally earned Winslet the deserving reward for her talent.
  3. 3

Randy (Mickey Rourke) in The Wrestler

The come back of 2009. Rourke is simply perfect in this role. How he lost the Oscar is beyond me.
  4. 4

    Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt)

A daring performance, maybe aided with CGI techniques at certain points - there's no other way to tell this story - but great in the end. Among Pitt's best, along with Fight Club or 12 Monkeys.
  5. 5

Maria Elena (Penelope Cruz) in Vicky Christina Barcelona

Half written screenplay, half improvisation. Half english, half spanish. The movie may be a paid advertisement by the tourism offices from Catalonia and Asturias, but Cruz really steals the whole show in an amazing supporting turn. Most wished the movie was just about her.

check out JCVD... it's a smart, intelligent movie that features a tour-de-force for any actor, and oddly enough, Jean-Claude van Damme more than delivers. It's a jawdropping mirror game with the real world.
