Top 10 Game Franchises

My Top 10 Video Game Franchises. Many consider Mario, Sonic, Zelda and even Pokemon to be the best but they are not included for the simple reason that I've never played, nor do I plan to. I have no interest in them.

I have never played games like the MG series. Games that can make you laugh, cry, feel adrenaline, combine stealth, guns, combat all interlocked with a story and a cinematic style that could rival any Hollywood movie. This is the total package and the pinacle of video game genius.

The greatest sandbox games ever. You're either nothing like GTA or you're a failed attempt at a GTA. With it's reputation that almosts precedes the game itself, no game as broke the popular culture barrier like GTA. A game that is almost a parody movie with it's constant knob gags, violent slapstick and it's abillty to take the piss without no consequences. It is the ultimate F-you to society. Pretty much because you can kill the society in this game. Nothing defines Open-World like this game. It also gave us, the gamer, the abillity to dictate the pace of the game something rarely seen outside an RPG. Do what you want, when you want, what's not to love?

This is the greatest Horror Franchise ever! No game can instill fear into you quite like Silent Hill. I'll be the first to admit that due to a production change, the quality of the games have twindled somewhat to the point where the franchise died but it's been relit with a new game and a new move coming out in 2012. (They are not connected). To be honest, all I can say is play this with the lights down, the sound turned up. Also, I believe Silent Hill 2 alone is better than any Resident Evil game. Bold statement I know but it's a pure masterpiece.

    Bethesda Software

I've combined two here because I think it's the developers who deserve the credit here. The Elder Scrolls and Fallout are THE Game Of The Year Champions. If you haven't played these games... you call yourself a "gamer"?

I'll admit I've only played 7-13 apart from 11. 13 may have not lived up to it's name, come to mention it 12 didn't either but has stand-alone games, pure awesome. The reason they didn't cut it? ... because Final Fantasy X is the greatest PS2 game ever made. I think we all know that number 7 was the greatest PS1 game too. 8 was a fairly quick and easy game and I think number 9 doesn't get much credit and I'm sure the online market will tell you 11 and 14 are amazing. I'm sure retro gamers will tell 1-6 are pretty awesome too. So for a franchise that has stood the test of time and is still knocking out bestsellers. How could I not includes this franchise.

I'm surprised Zelda and Mario aren't anywhere on this list. While Mario has thrown the same story at players since the moment it was created, it has hugely revolutionized the VG industry (SM64, SMG 1 and 2), Zelda on the other hand has always been amazing. The first game was groundbreaking for the time and every subsequent game has been great (excluding the DS ones). OoT may be the greatest game ever, but Majora's Mask still offers the best story. I'm going to stop writing now, because this is getting ridiculous but the bottom line is that Nintendo is sorely underrepresented on this list.

If this is a list solely based on personal preference, at least change the title. This is not the "Top 10 Video Game Franchises", rather only your favorite video game franchises, nothing more.

"So for a franchise that has stood the test of time and is still knocking out bestsellers. How could I not includes this franchise." This could be easily said for Mario and Zelda. This is clearly a list for franchises only on PS2/3 and PC

No, I've never played Zelda so I have no opinion on if it's good or not. I like Final Fantasy and I believe the quality of the games are still at a good standard.

Woozie 666 i'm not asking you to play every game that ever existed but your talking about the best Game Franchises and its a well known fact that the 3 you mentioned above sonic mario and zelda are usualy included in every list, and for good reason, you can't just dismess them and claim these are the top video game Franchises. again go try one of each of these games and then refresh your list, also i do expect the people that want to make a statment about top Game Franchises to have at least a large and versatile experience in gaming (not to have played every game but to have tried a large diverce amount), thats why i will be dismissing this list although i agree with most of the items on it.

But to include them would be naive, when I haven't even played them but then there will be a fan of every single game that would want me to play there game and judge it. I created the list out of my own personal experience with games and I also did it for fun. Also, just because I haven't played three specific games franchises does not mean I have not got a wide and varied knowledge of gaming. Besides, I have played the early Sonic games and the one on the PS3 and they are s**t. I played the original Mario but it didn't interest me. Zelda, I couldn't care less for.

if you have never played zelda and mario then you have no right to make this list, you can't judje something by it's cover, so go play them and then post this list if you still think it should stay the same

By that logic. You think I should of played every game that ever existed ever before I could make any gaming list. Despite the fact that that would be impossible. Surely if I ranked Mario at number 9, then I would have no right to rank him because I've never played it. Think before you speak.
  8. I am totally sad that they seem to have wrapped up this series on PS3 now. Though the on coming out on the Vita might convince me to spend money on a portable for the first time in 10 years.

No! I didn't know that was the last one. I though Drake had James Bond potential. What a waste! ... damn ...

AC:Revelations isn't the end of the series. It's just the end of the Enzio and Altiair storylines. AC3 will probably come out either next year or 2013.
