Top 5 Most Outrageous Claims About Obama in 2009

Lies about Obama, myths about Obama, myths about Democrats -- 2009 was a big year for pundits hating on liberal politicians. Some of the claims made about Obama were so outrageous, they could only have come from the worst bowels of the Fox News broadcasters. Other claims were just plain ill-informed. These five were the worst of the worst.

    Obama is a Communist

Most of these came about from the Tea Parties, that to my disappointment were not un-birthday parties and did not feature a Mad Hatter. These instead were rallies held by individuals who felt that the government was trying to take too much control over programs, such as health care, and who felt government run programs were never successful. The government Parks program, and the government security that guarded their rallies, those work just fine.

Obama wants to kill your grandmother

This was my absolute favorite of all the false claims that came out about the Health Care Reform bill. That the President and other proponents of health care change would actually institute death panels that would kill your loved ones if they became too much of a burden. Not true. We just put them in a home, where they become a burden to someone else.

Obama wants to indoctrinate your children

I never thought that the President wanting to make a speech to young students on the first day of school would cause such an uproar. The fact that people thought he would say anything other than the typical "stay in school, be good citizens, stay on the straight and narrow path" messages, is ridiculous. The fact that Glenn Beck and other right wing media leaders urged parents to not send their children to school in protest of the fact Obama was trying to "indoctrinate their children" was/is utterly ludicrous.

Obama is trying to create a National Army of Americorps volunteers

Yeah, this one is a gem. Really? Really? Obama is plotting to take over the country, by enlisting a team of idealistic young people who want to help build houses and run literacy programs for undeserved children? Really? And you are basing this on the fact that years ago, someone who was a member of the Students for a Democratic Society had an eventual connection with someone who started the organization ACORN? Nice. Nice Work.

Obama was not born in the United States

I know this is a confusing one, for I have friends whose parents were born in other countries and they themselves were born in the United States. This can be confusing to some people, as they do not understand if the person is American, or Iranian, or Indian or Hispanic, since the parents are of a different nationality. But Obama, while his father is Kenyan, was born in the United States. In Hawaii. The Department of Health produced his birth certificate so people would stop complaining about it, and focus on the myriad of other huge ACTUAL problems facing our nation. You know, two wars, a failing economy, those things.

Everyone knew that when Obama won the election there was going to be a lot of negative hype, and that is just what happened. I'm sure there are a lot more claims for this list as well.
