Top Albums of 1998
By 90s standards, a Meh year - though pretty strong by the standards of the decade that followed. I wrote this list up quickly as I was launching my first internet company at the time - I'm sure I forgot a few faves of the day, and eventually I will probably write up a revised version of this list as there are other albums from '98 that I have gotten into since I wrote this up, and some of these records have stood the test of time more than others (I put Willie Nelson's Teatro ahead of Elliott Smith's XO??). #1 should really be either Car Wheels or Mermaid, and Mezzanine has been in my personal heavy rotation the whole time as well. Mutations came out very late in the year and I probably hadn't listened to it enough at the time I made the list, but it's probably my fave Beck album as well.
List Criteria: As-is, from 1998 (my music marketing co sent out Y/E lists in our holiday cards). No live, no comps.
