Anderson Cooper finally came out of the closet via a blog post by Andrew Sullivan and Twitter blew up with the same reaction: "duh". Anderson Cooper made news today with something that most people already knew or at least already assumed. The interesting part is that there seems to be more people "surprised that people are surprised" than people who are actually expressing any sort of surprise at all. So it's just highly publicized news, not necessarily something that's shocked everyone.

The most important part of the interview with Andrew Sullivan, which is how he came out is this sentence: "The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud."

So the news isn't quite significant because he's telling the world he's a homosexual, but it's a big deal because someone who wanted to seem impartial, who held off from telling the public his sexual orientation, finally came out in order to support the millions of others who are "out".

He said it best: "... the tide of history only advances when people make themselves fully visible."
