List of the US states with the most inmates on death row. Connecticut abolished capital punishment in April 2012, becoming the 17th state without the death penalty - and the 5th to repeal the law since 2007. Connecticut and New Mexico both have prisoners currently sentenced to death, even though capital punishment has been outlawed in those states.
