    9/11

    On Tuesday, September 11th, 2001,Roughly 3,000 innocent lives were lost in a pointless terrorist attack. The largest terrorist attack on the continental United States in history. Sparked the war on terror.

    The Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster

    The space shuttle exploded over the Atlantic Ocean due to structural failure on January 28th 1986, all seven crew members were killed.

    The Oklahoma City Bombing

    Tim McVeigh and co-conspirator Terry Nichols plotted to carry out a bombing on a federal building in Oklahoma City. On April 19th, 1995, Tim McVeigh parked a Ryder truck full of explosives next to the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building and ignited the fuse, the bombs killed 168 including 19 under the age of 6 as well as doing damage to many nearby buildings.

    Hurricane Katrina

    The hurricane and flooding, which started in late August, 2005, killed almost 2,000 as well as causing around $80 billion dollars in property damage to Louisiana and the Southeast United States.

    The Beating of Rodney King

    LAPD officers brutally beat Rodney King on March 3rd, 1991, in a violation of civil rights. This sparked the LA riots which left 53 dead, thousands injured and lots of property damage in South Central Los Angeles.

    On April 17th 2007, Seung H*i-Cho, a senior English Major at Virginia Tech University shot and killed 32 and wounded 25 before taking his own life on campus.

    DC Snipers

    Across a three week period in October 2002, John Allen Muhammed and Lee Boyd Malvo carried out 13 attacks from the trunk of Muhammed's car using a high powered sniper rifle in the Washington DC, primarily along the Capital Beltway. 10 were killed and 3 were injured by the time the snipers were caught.

    Columbine High School
    On April 20th,1999, two high school students at Columbine High School, in a suburb of Denver, Colorado, carried out one of the most infamous acts of school violence in history. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold brought an arsenal of firearms and bombs to school. Though their original plan which could have killed hundreds failed, they still killed 12 students and 1 teacher and injured 32 before turning the guns on themselves.

    Waco Siege

    After a gun battle at the Branch Davidian in Waco, Texas turned into an exchange of gunshots, the FBI carried out a siege of the Branch Davidian Ranch on February 28th, 1993 which ended 50 days later after a fire destroyed the compound. 76 people died in the fire.

    Gulf Oil Spill

    On April 20th, 2010 The BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig, which was located on the Gulf of Mexico right off of the coast of Louisiana exploded, killing 11 workers on board. The subsequent oil leakage caused the worst damage, polluting hundreds of miles of water and badly harming the Gulfs wildlife and ecosystem. The oil was capped 3 months later but the damage was already done.
