Although I haven't been to all of these places, I've seen enough pictures to know that I probably don't want to visit, let alone live there.

Add Georgia to the list! Atlanta is overrated! Its hard to find work here, I've lived in Georgia my entire life and I hate it. Was thinking about trying out Ohio..any suggestions?

Texas put the 'harm' in 'charm'. I was excited to be in Texas for the first time but the hostility and phony 'charm' showed me the real Texas. I didn't know people could be so hatefully conservative.

    Mississippi at 10/06/2011 12:47 AM
Mississippi can be very hateful toward other Americans.

    Idaho at 10/06/2011 12:44 AM
In Boise, calling somebody an 'idiot' is considered 'nice'? Will, you make Boise sound unfriendly and hostile toward Americans from other places.

Um, what? Minnesota is generally regarded as a very desirable and attractive place to live, and that's despite the cold and snow. How is Minnesota ranked 4th worst out of THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES? Sure, winters are cold. So what. Put on a parka and enjoy it! I'd much rather tolerate Minnesota winters and enjoy our pristine forests and lakes than live anywhere in the poverty-stricken South, or god forbid Texas.

Minnesota is the very worst, in particular if you live close to it's "major" cities, unless you're an extreme left wing DFL progressive and still voted for Paul Wellstone or gus hall last election.

Vermont has got to be one of the worst. We are one of the highest taxed per capita yet or average income is only around the 50th percentile of the national average. We have aggressive socialist constantly getting elected so the entitlement programs are only getting fatter and the taxes worse.

Rogers, Arkansas was ranked # 10 in best places to live. I have lived in many states and now live here in Arkansas and wouldn't leave. The people are wonderful. The State Parks are amazing. There is a ton to do. If you ranked AR #2 then you are sadly mistaken and really need to visit AR!

Are you serious? That is really retarded way to critique a state. Its like determining how much money you have by how many inches a pile is. Epic fail.

    Indiana at 10/20/2010 8:51 PM
I completley agree. I've lived in Indiana for all 21 of my years and am looking to get out of here!

      Indiana at 12/23/2010 7:58 AM
Indianapolis is a beautiful city and the state has the most practical policy on welfare and social services eligibility of any of the states. If you aren't willing to get off your duff and work toward getting a practical education or hold down a job, you don't qualify for assistance. It should be that way in all states. Imagine how much better off each state's economy would be if this were the case, not to mention the national fiscal health!
However, there is too much snow for far too long in the year. I moved to Indianapolis December 15th and when I was finally able to leave in late April, it snowed the day I left! Northern Indiana is even worse for weather and employment. However, the state does have excellent schools from pre-k through college (though having to pay each year for a child to attend what is supposed to the public school system is contradictory in terms. Public education is supposed to be free. If parents must pay tuition to have their children attend common schools, why not pay tuition to a private institution where parents actually have a voice in the management of the education their children receive?

The vast majority of Californians I've met, I've immediately had the urge to punch in the face... If Jersey is considered the armpit of the states, then California is the crusty f******n.

The two worst states have to be Ca. & Ma. People are very rude and know it all. Ok. is very nice, people are great. No, I'm not from Ok. I'm from N.H. ,another cold, rude state, but a lot nicer then Ca. or Ma.

Carson City is a nice little town. A certain amount of sprawl but not anywhere near the nastiness of any of the other top ten listed. Clean air too!

Its just too expensive to live here, you are taxed on everything. From the air you breathe to every step you take. There is a tax for it. Living here you dont have any spending money.
