These photos feature a young Ice Cube, many of which focus on his late teenager years all the way into his early 20’s where he launched his career with the group N.W.A. The cover photo is his high school yearbook picture. Born as O'Shea Jackson, Sr. on June 15, 1969 in Los Angeles, California, Ice Cube had a half-sister who was tragically murdered by her boyfriend in a murder-suicide when he was only 12 years old. His cousin, Del tha Funkee Homosapien is part of the rap group Hieroglyphics. Ice Cube took an interest in hip hop and rap music when he was in George Washington Preparatory High School; he participated with a keyboarding class and began to write lyrics. In 1987, he attended Phoenix Institute of Technology, with a focus on architectural drafting. With close friend Sir Jinx, they formed the rap group C.I.A. and began performing shows at Dr. Dre’s house. After Dr. Dre found success with his group World Class Wreckin' Cru, he asked Ice Cube to collaborate in writing their hit song “Cabbage Patch,” which was the launching of Ice Cube’s musical career. Check out these photos of Ice Cube when he was young, just don't laugh at his jheri curls or you might get shot.
