The world of video games is pretty much like any other mass entertainment market, alongside the music and the movie industries. If you make something good, you're celebrated as a visionary, and critical and commercial praise are easy pickings. If you make something BAD however, you're reviled by critics and peers...but commercial success sometimes follows anyway.
Bad games happen all the time, though. And more often than not people can see a bad game coming from a mile away, thus they're left to wallow in their pathetic domain of substandardness, only to be bought up by people lacking the brain cells to know how to wear shoes with laces. (I mean who ELSE could be buying up all the Cabela's Big Game Hunter games?)
Every so often though, gamers feel the sting of betrayal from game companies, who dash the hopes of wide-eyed button-mashers to the ground after they'd previously raised them up. Noone honestly expected a game Drake of the 99 Dragons to be good, but when a game that's been made to look so awesome ends up a major disappointment...that's when gamers reach for their liquor.
Below I've compiled a retrospective list of 10 games, that likewised dashed the hopes of gamers to the rocks of cynicism below. I've chosen specifically to look at more recent games instead of more famous disasters like Daikatana, Rise of the Robots, or the infamous E.T. game, because those have already made their mark on a historical level, and don't necesarily bear repeating.
These however...give them a few years, and I guarantee they'll have a place in the annals of gaming history...in the chapter on gaming history's biggest disappointments.
