I'm a freak for insects. Love em. But ants have a special place with me. No other insect species is as unbelievable... as sophisticated, and as ...well, as powerful as ants. They have remained in an un-evolved state of perfection for 6 million years, because they got it right. And if you got it right, why mess with it? This list is only a tiny fraction of all the amazing facts about ants. Think about these ant facts before the next time you step on them for fun.

I can't unsee these movies.

This is a hard thing to do, ranking Simpsons episodes. Sure, it hasn't been brilliant for a long time, but it had an amazing run of incredible, never-grow-old, always-funny episodes. Years worth. And while some just have some of the best bits EVER, others are just a cohesive blend of perfect timing and perfect writing. Picking just 10 or 20 is impossible. So I picked my favorites... ones I couldn't in good conscience, cull out. I ended up with 85. Putting them in order was difficult... and I guarantee I will move some up and other down... but overall, these 85 (464 total made) are television comedy gold. Warning: Fox may have any or all of these clips removed from YouTube at any time.

The things I crave are probably not poster-children for this list. I would be thrilled to subsist entirely on San Francisco Sourdough Bread for the rest of my life. Or Spaghetti and Meatballs. I know, I would be the size of a house, but that's all I want to eat. Ever.

No way burning can't be at the top of this list. Have any of you even just gotten too close to the fireplace?

There's nothing that get's people's goats more than making these kinds of lists. As if you could boil down the more important things... as if it really means anything anyway. But I think its cool anyhow. I love the idea that there were these THINGS that happened to mankind that made us what we are now. That helped or hindered us, that spell out salvation and doom at the same time. Things that, if they had not happened the way they did... would have made the world look very different indeed.
And that's just neat.

They say the car makes the man, right? Or is it hair... shoes? Well, these are the upstaging people movers that, oftentimes, were way cooler than the shows or comics they were in. We start from the best and move to the worst. As it should be.

You might think this would be a list about the weather here. Or maybe beaches or palm trees. Nope. I never go to the beach. Turns out there's a lot of sand there (that gets in stuff), and it's a Shakespearean Nightmare to park. Also, while the weather is nice and all, it doesn't quite make the list of things that are Awesome about LA. Yes, that's right haters, Los Angeles is pretty great. And those of you who think its all shallow people and traffic... you're right. But you're missing the better picture, which is that shallow people are hilarious. And the town they built around themselves is all the better for it. Hipsters, Posers, FameWhores, Wannabes... they are here in their Mecca. And they are fabulous to live adjacent to.

Things are different now than they were when we were kids, sonny. Those of you who are parents probably are made aware of this more often than others, as watching your kids grow up doing things you never got to do makes those changes more apparent. Also, Mistress Time, she is not kind to our poor, old brains. It's HARD to remember exactly what we used to do when we were kids. Really, though, the fun part isn't so much that you played different games or did a lot more staring at the wall than kids today... the fun part is how different the entire cultural zeitgeist was. And, of course, that's the more difficult thing to pin down. Because, seriously, folks today can hardly remember where they put their Venti Latte 5 minutes ago (answer: on top of your car) much less how they thought of things in general. Our parents had a totally different experience of the global community pre-internet. Just think about that for a second. How did we use to think of the world before guerilla bloggers took over the flow of information? Neat! Scary! Anyway, enough navel-gazing. On with this list.

It could be that my most favoritest guilty pleasure is the consumption of disaster movies. Mostly because of what I learn so that I may be prepared when that next Meteor/Tsunami/Alien Invasion/Tornado/Earthquake/Monster/Climate Change comes along. How else are we going to be ready? I don't see any real guides out there. Who else do we have to turn to except these masterworks? Watch and learn... so the next time your windows start to shake or a giant fireball appears perfectly framed on the horizon, you will know just what you need to do to survive.

This is far from a complete list, Jon routinely pulls back the curtain on the media, but these are some of the most memorable moments for me, personally. There's nothing better than watching someone else actually say and do exactly what you WISH you could do if you had a) the guts, b) the talent, and c) the forum. Jon Stewart is just the man for the job. These are some of the moments that made me howl with joy.

Movies with money, with a cast ... movies that had a director... and yet, were overcooked, overwrought and outright awful.

You know you can't stand the show when you finally take that ultimate step... a step that means that you hate the show so much now you don't even want to see it as an option on your Now Playing list.

Culled from early 20th century, since that is clearly the most awesome of time periods for art.

Movies that won Best Picture oscars and didn't deserve them.

If you have kids, you know you are always on the lookout for a movie that they will love and that you can sit through without clawing your own soul out. These are movies that transcend the whole kids-are-idiots-and-therefore-must-be-talked-down-to trap that many moviemakers seem to fall into when it comes to Family Fare.

These flicks get no love from anyone but me. And sure, I'm a little embarrased by SOME of them... but I still watch them every time they come on TV. Some of these are hated on principle... just for the backlash. But I stand by my initial opinion when I saw them... and refuse to back down from my original reaction, despite the mockery. Bring it on!
October 27, 2009
These are movies you may not have heard of, but should watch. Immediately. Because of the awesome.
October 27, 2009
These are my favorite movie moments of all time. Maybe not the best moments in the film or even of all time, but MY favorite moments. I know it's a little Spielberg-heavy, but what can I say? The perfectly put-together scene is one of his greatest strengths.

I do love TV. And I love and loved these shows. So. Much.
