The Ikapa Writers Forum was founded in 2008. It grew out of the local writer’ s desires to see their work being published. The Iqonga Lababhali is the Xhosa word for “writers forum.” Mr Xolisa Tshongolo lead to the establishment of the forum. Madoda Gcwadi’ s experience and dedication led to his appointment as the director of the forum. Madoda Gcwadi, an experienced dramatist and an author who has written and performed plays about social ills caused by the apartheid system, is currently the director of the Ikapa Writers Forum. It was evident that integration of writing skills with personal experiences, could assist authors in restoration and preservation of our heritage. The Ikapa Writers Forum contribute through capacitating authors with necessary writing skills. In the past the focus was mainly on Xhosa literature. The writers forum has open doors to all eleven official languages of South Africa. Medium of instruction for Creative Writing Workshops that the forum offers depends on the targeted audience.
