''˜Considered by some to be Colombia''s greatest living Artist Biography of Colombian Artist, Phillip Witcomb....The Modern Master Phillip was born in Bogota, Colombia, South America in 1962. In 1965 at the age of two English expatriates adopted him from an orphanage in Bogota. He started drawing and painting from a very early age, and in fact, his first ever sale was a portrait, at the age of six. This essentially was the start of his career as an artist. Paintings Phillip''s dazzling oil paintings are a kind of View painting, depicting the scenes as he sees them on his travels. In order to create an incredibly accurate and realistic composition, he visits each scene several times to make detailed studies. This kind of extremely accurate ˜View painting follows the traditions of the great Venetian painters of the 18th century. By studying the drawing and layered glazing techniques of the old Venetian masters, Phillip has managed to achieve an almost three-dimensional feel to his paintings. Realism Phillip is a realist In general, realists render everyday characters, situations, dilemmas, and objects, all in a "true-to-life" manner. Realists tend to discard theatrical drama, lofty subjects and classical forms of art in favor of commonplace themes. Phillip™s paintings "tell it as it is" so to speak. He draws what he has seen without any bias added. He simply focuses on what is happening in front of him. Tutors 1974-1977 Studied in the studios of Ada Balcacer One of the great Dominican masters of our time™. Here he learned still life drawing techniques, and abstract representation with mixed media. 1977-1978 Studied in the studios of R.P.Reynolds A direct descendant of Sir Joshua Reynolds First president and founder of the royal academy of arts in London. Here he learned Life drawing and wild life watercolour painting. 1978-1980 Studied under Sir Roger De Grey RA. Sir Roger became president of the Royal academy of Arts in 1984. Knighted by her majesty the Queen in 1991 for his services to British Art, Sir Roger started Phillip on his long journey to master the art of Oil Painting.
