After the Fall

After the Fall is the (presumed) final book in the long-running Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. It will be released 40 years after the first, introductory book of the series Dragonflight was published in 1968. Pern is a planet in the Saggitarian Sector colonized by humans. The original colonists were reduced to a low level of technology by periodic onslaughts of deadly Thread raining down from the sky. By genetically engineering a huge riding beast (resembling but not the same as the dragons of old Earth legends) from the indigenous flying, fire-breathing "firelizards," humanity finally managed to gain the upper hand.
