Top 500 Musical Groups/Artists of Alltime

Top 500 Rock Bands isn't 100% accurate as this includes solo artists, and though it does not include jazz or blues it does include soul, R&B, Americana, reggae, and classic country (yes, that is somewhat arbitrary, but for whatever reason i listen to blues and jazz differently than the rest, and would be too hard to compare Miles or Ornette or Hooker to, say, Aerosmith). Criteria for my greatest bands of all time list is a combination of recorded albums, live shows I've seen, live recordings I've heard, radio songs, and even overall image/album covers/general coolness or uniqueness. I guess that was a way of trying to explain that the ranking is just a gut feeling. But it's probably about 50% based on "live chops", hence the lower ranking of the Beatles, who quit playing live before the most creative parts of their career. I am very into live shows and live recordings.
Obviously, this list will change over time. I'm adding commentary to items whenever i get a spare minute or something interesting comes to mind about a band, probably 10-20 entries a month.

Top 5 Worst Attempted Comebacks of 2009

To have a comeback in 2009, you have to have been forgotten for a while and then all of a sudden pop back up out of nowhere this year. These people tried to do this in 2009, but failed miserably. Remember the last time you enjoyed/saw them? Yeah, neither do I, but I know it was sometime in 2009.

Musicians I Have Always Had To Defend My Love For

They are commonly called guilty pleasures, but guilt is never a good reason to do or feel anything. Still, when I'm sitting with my art critic and film aficionado friends, and we're talking about how wonderful Stockhausen or Tom Waits or Can were, I inevitably and accidentally let slip that I might love some of these bands. Then I am taunted and the waiter refuses my appeals for more escargot. At which point I flip them the bird, storm out and drive off in my mudflapped truck. Here they are. And I defend them all. Commentary in the "Discuss" balloons.

My Top 100 Musical Artists

I was inspired by, and took most of my entries from, Clark Benson's list of 500, but he didn't have enough female artists for my tastes, nor did he have them rated highly enough. He excluded Blues and Jazz (except he has some artists who could be classified as Blues or Jazz on his list), so I did, too. However, I clearly like hip hop more than he does, so I had to add more of that, too. I haven't ranked the artists, and the list is in very rough order, because I'm new at this whole thing.
