Carl N. Degler

Carl Neumann Degler (born 6 Feb 1921 in Orange, N.J.) is an American historian. Degler is a past president of the Organization of American Historians, the American Historical Association and the Southern Historical Association. He is the Margaret Byrne Professor of American History Emeritus at Stanford University. In 1972, Degler was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for History for his book Neither Black nor White, a work comparing slavery and race relations in Brazil and the United States.
