Chamki Chameli

Chamki Chameli is an Indian film directed by Shyam Benegal and written by Shama Zaidi. The film is based on the French Opera Carmen, by George Bizet. The musical was made into a Hollywood film in 2003. The film is currently in pre-production. The story revolves around the eponymous Chamki, a beautiful gypsy girl with a fiery temper. She is fatalistic and hedonistic, living entirely in the present moment. Not careful with her love, she is responsible for the downfall of many men. The temptress woos a BSF Jawan, Dilip Singh, leading him to mutiny against his superior. His infatuation causes him to join a band of drug runners, of which Chamki is a member.
