Cherokee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 12,072 in the 2010 census, a decline from 13,035 in 2000. The county seat is the city of Cherokee. According to the 2000 census, the county has a total area of 577.34 square miles (1,495.3 km), of which 577.15 square miles (1,494.8 km) (or 99.97%) is land and 0.18 square miles (0.47 km) (or 0.03%) is water.
