Fish Island, London

Fish Island is an isolated area of land in Poplar, London, in the Tower Hamlets. Fish Island is bounded by the River Lea, the Hertford Union Canal and the East Cross Route. Some of its streets are named after fish, hence the name. Primarily an industrial area, the island has the potential for major regeneration as a result of its proximity to the 2012 Summer Olympics Olympic Park, on the opposite bank of the Lea. The planning authority LTGDC intends to see it developed as a mixed-use community with land used for housing, employment and open space, with improved access links.
