Fred Forbát

Fred Forbát (born Forbát Alfréd; 31 March 1897, Pécs, Hungary - 22 May 1972, in Vällingby (Sweden)) was a Hungarian-born architect with significant work in Germany and Sweden. Forbát was born of Jewish parents in Pécs. He studied architecture and art history at the University of Budapest and the Technical University of Munich. From 1920 though 1922 Forbát worked with Walter Gropius and was a lecturer at the Bauhaus in its first incarnation, in Weimar. (According to Willett, at least, Forbát and his wife had been deported by the Bavarian government.) Forbát was the one who encouraged and recommended the school to his fellow Hungarian Marcel Breuer.
