Gods and Pawns

Gods and Pawns (ISBN 0-765-31552-1) is a collection of stories written by Kage Baker and published by Tor Books. The stories are set in the universe of her series about The Company. Operating in the 24th century, a group of scientists and businessmen has created immortal cyborgs at different times throughout history. These loyal servants preserve items from the past for the Company to sell, at huge profit. Recruited as very young children, the cyborgs leave their humanity behind. There are exceptions, however.
