Harold Washington College

Harold Washington College is a community college within the City Colleges of Chicago system of Chicago, Illinois. It is located in the Loop at 30 E Lake St. Founded in 1962 as Loop College, the college was renamed for the first African American mayor of Chicago, Harold Washington, after his death in 1987. The school was dedicated to Washington's memory in a ceremony on April 19, 1988. Elements of City-Wide College were joined to the college when the former was closed in 1993. The Dawson Technical Institute was under the auspices of the college from 1993 to 1995, when it became part of Kennedy-King College.
