Hugo Strange

Professor Hugo Strange is a fictional comic book supervillain appearing in books published by DC Comics, as an adversary of Batman. He first appeared in Detective Comics #36 (February 1940), and is one of Batman's first recurring villains, preceding the Joker and Catwoman by several months. He is also one of Batman's first villains to realize that Batman is Bruce Wayne. Hugo Strange first appears as a scientist who uses a stolen "concentrated lightning" machine to generate a dense fog every night, allowing his gang to rob banks unseen, though he knows Batman poses a threat to him. Batman has been alerted to Strange due to a man murdered by a member of Strange's gang. He has heard of him prior to the story, and knows he is a master...
