Ion Irimescu

Acad. Prof. Dr. Honoris Causa Ion Irimescu (February 27, 1903 – October 29, 2005) was one of Romania's greatest sculptors and sketchers as well as a Member of the Romanian Academy. In 2001 he was awarded the Prize of Excellence for Romanian Culture. He is often referred to as the "patriarch of Romanian art and sculpture". He was born in Fălticeni, where he was a member of the first graduating class at the Nicu Gane National College.
