Penwortham

Penwortham (33°55′S 138°38′E / 33.917°S 138.633°E / -33.917; 138.633) is a small town in the Clare Valley, South Australia, along the Main North Road, approximately 10 kilometres south of Clare and 14 kilometres north of Auburn. It is surrounded by natural eucalyptus bushland and a section of the Skilly Hills, which in turn forms part of the Mount Lofty Ranges. The village of Penwortham was originally founded by settler, pioneer and explorer, John Horrocks (22 March 1818 - 23 September 1846). Horrocks arrived in the colony of South Australia on his 21st birthday, 22 March 1839, less than three years after its proclamation by Governor John Hindmarsh.
