Sultan Kudarat is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Maguindanao, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of about 94,861 people in 16,996 households. The town was part of the province of Shariff Kabunsuan from October 2006 until its nullification by the Supreme Court in July 2008. The great grandson of Sultan Kudarat, Hon. Datu Tucao Mastura, the current administrator of the municipality and its mayor until the 2007 elections, where he ran as the governor of Shariff Kabunsuan supported the creation of the province but failed. Sultan Kudarat is politically subdivided into 39 barangays.
