University of Mary Washington

The University of Mary Washington (also known as UMW, Mary Washington, or Mary Wash) is a public, coeducational liberal arts college located in the city of Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA. Founded in 1908 by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a normal school, during much of the twentieth century it was part of the University of Virginia, until separating in 1972. It is named after Mary Ball Washington, mother of George Washington, who spent much of her life in Fredericksburg. As of the 2010-2011 year, the school had 4,354 undergraduate students and 849 graduate students.
