A list of the best Atlanta Falcons of all time. Formed in 1966, the first few decades of the team's history wasn't too promising. The Falcons didn't reach the playoffs until 1978, and had only five playoff berths in its first 30 years. Atlanta has had some of the most entertaining teams in the league with a bunch of superstar players. These Falcons can be considered some of the best players in team history.Beginning in 1989 with the drafting of one of the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/best-football-players-ever">best players of all time</a> in Deion Sanders. With &quot;Prime Time&quot; and other great players like Andre Rison and Terence Mathis, the Falcons were <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-movies-to-watch-while-drinking/anncasano?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">fun to watch</a>. In 1998, Jamal Anderson powered the Falcons to the franchise's first Super Bowl berth. Though the team lost to the Broncos in Super Bowl XXXIII, it was a turning point for the Falcons. Under Michael VIck, the Falcons reached the playoffs twice. Say what you want about Vick, but he's one of the best Falcons of all time. More recently, Matt Ryan has been at the helm of the most prosperous era in Falcons history. The team spent 49 years in the Windy City before moving to St. Louis ahead of the 1960 season. Those early Cardinals teams features multiple Hall of Famers like Charley Trippi, Ernie Nevers and John &quot;Paddy&quot; Driscoll. The last Cardinals team to win a championship was based in Chicago, and the year was 1947.The St. Louis Cardinals featured some great players as well. Dan Dierdorf is a Hall of Fame lineman who spent his entire 13 year career in St. Louis. The same goes for Hall of Fame tight end Jackie Smith and cornerback Roger Wehrli. These players were some of the best Cardinals in team history. Ottis Anderson is considered one of the greatest Cardinals ever. Though the team made the playoffs only once during his time with the team, Anderson still holds several team records.The Cardinals are currently based in Phoenix, and are now called the Arizona Cardinals. The duo were the anchors on the Ravens Super Bowl winning team in the 2000 season. Joe Flacco is easily the franchise's best quarterback. Flacco led the team to a Super Bowl victory over San Francisco in 2013 and was named the MVP of that game. With a combination of hitting the jackpot on high draft picks, shrewd trades and a seasoned head coach in Marv Levy, many of the greatest Bills in team history came from the team's most successful seasons during the 1990s.&nbsp;Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Bruce Smith and Andre Reed are considered by many to be the best Bills ever. These players were at the core of the Bills teams that went to the Super Bowl a league record four straight years from 1990-1993. Ultimately, these players never were able to capture that elusive Super Bowl title, The run of success that these BIlls players were a part of are looked back fondly by Bills fans. In 1988, the Bengals last Super Bowl team, the league&#39;s MVP was quarterback Boomer Esiason. Considered one of the great Bengals, Esasion led the team to several playoff berths during his time in Cincinnati. More recently, Chad &quot;Ocho Cinco&quot; Johnson and Carson Palmer are two of the best Bengals respectively, helped lead the team to the playoffs. If not for an injury to Palmer in the 2005 playoffs, that Bengals team may have gone much farther. One of the greatest players though is offensive tackle Anthony Munoz. He is the only Bengal in the Hall of Fame is considered one of the best left tackles in NFL history.

After floundering without Elway, the Broncos picked up another all time great in the form of Peyton Manning. Calvin Johnson

A list of the best St. Louis Rams of all time. The Rams have one of the longest legacies in professional football. Beginning in 1937 in Cleveland, the Rams have moved a total of four times. The team has had its fair share of outstanding players on its team as well. The team moved to Los Angeles in 1946 where it stayed until the end of the 1994 season. It was then based out of St. Louis until 2015. A list of the best Houston Texans of all time. Formed in 2002 in the aftermath of the Oilers leaving for Tennessee, the Texans are the newest NFL franchise. The team had some lean years during its early years, but that doesn't Houston has been devoid of great players. One of the best draft picks the Texans made was when they selected wide receiver Andre Johnson with the third overall pick in 2003. Johnson is the team's leader in almost every receiving category the Texans have and was for many years considered the most underrated receiver in football. Now that Johnson has finally gotten his due, he is considered not only a top wide receiver, but one of the greatest Houston Texans of all time.In recent years, the Texans have had success drafting great players. Buck Buchanan

This is a list of the best Kansas City Chiefs of all time. Founded by football pioneer Lamar Hunt, the Kansas City Chiefs were originally the Dallas Texans. The franchise started in 1960, but moved to KC in 1963. The Chiefs had some of the best players in the AFL during those early days. Many of the greatest players in Chiefs history were on these teams. Barry Sanders

Barry Sanders (born July 16, 1968) is a former American football running back. He played professionally for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). A Pro Bowl invitee in each of his ten NFL seasons and two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year, Sanders led the league in rushing yards four times and established himself as one of the most elusive runners in pro football with his quickness and agility. In 2007, he was ranked by NFL Network's NFL Top 10 series as the most elusive runner in NFL history, and also topped its list of greatest players never to play in a Super Bowl. He is often regarded as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history. 
Sanders played college football for the Oklahoma State Cowboys football team, where, as a junior in 1988 he compiled what is considered one of the greatest individual seasons in college football history, rushing for 2,850 yards and 42 touchdowns in 12 games. He was awarded the Heisman Trophy as the most outstanding college player in the nation and was unanimously recognized as an All-American. Sanders was first inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. He then was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003 and that same year inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. 
Sanders joined the Lions in 1989 and had an immediate impact, winning the NFL's Rookie of the Year award. Through ten seasons in Detroit, he averaged over 1,500 rushing yards per season and just under 100 rushing yards per game. In 1997, he became the third player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season and was named the NFL Most Valuable Player. Still seemingly in his prime, Sanders unexpectedly retired from football after the 1998 season, 1,457 yards short of breaking the NFL's all-time rushing record. His number 20 jersey was retired by the Lions, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004. A year later Sanders was also inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame along with fellow pro and college football hall of famer Thurman Thomas.

Calvin Johnson Jr.  (born September 29, 1985) is a former American football wide receiver. A two-time All-American at Georgia Tech, Johnson was selected second overall by the Detroit Lions of the National Football League in the 2007 NFL Draft, and he played for the Lions for all of his professional career. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers of all time despite his early retirement at age 30 in 2016.On March 14, 2012, Johnson signed an eight-year, $132 million contract extension with the Lions, one of the largest sports contracts ever.
Johnson had a rare combination of size (6 ft 5 in and 239 lbs), catching ability, speed (40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds), strength, leaping ability, and body control. He was nicknamed Megatron, after a Transformers character; the name was given to him by Lions teammate Roy Williams and caught on with fans.
On December 22, 2012, Johnson broke Jerry Rice's single-season record of 1,848 receiving yards, and finished the 2012 season with 1,964 yards, an average of almost 123 yards per game. In that same game versus the Atlanta Falcons, Johnson also set the NFL records for consecutive 100-yard games (8, later tied by Adam Thielen) and consecutive games with 10 or more receptions (4). He tied Michael Irvin's record for most 100-yard games in a season with 11.

Dick Lane

Richard Lane (April 16, 1928 – January 29, 2002), commonly known as Dick "Night Train" Lane, was an American football player.  A native of Austin, Texas, he played professional football in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 years as a defensive back for the Los Angeles Rams (1952–1953), Chicago Cardinals (1954–1959), and Detroit Lions (1960–1965).
As a rookie in 1952, Lane had 14 interceptions, a mark that remains an NFL record more than 65 years later.  He played in the Pro Bowl seven times and was selected as a first-team All-NFL player seven times between 1956 and 1963.  His 68 career interceptions ranked second in NFL history at the time of his retirement and still ranks fourth in NFL history. He was also known as one of the most ferocious tacklers in NFL history and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1974. He was also named to the NFL's all-time All-Pro team in 1969 and its 75th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1994. In 1999, he was ranked number 20 on The Sporting News' list of the 100 Greatest Football Players.
After retiring from professional football, Lane worked for the Detroit Lions in various administrative positions from 1966 to 1972 and then held assistant coaching positions at Southern University (1972) and Central State University (1973). For 17 years from 1975 to 1992, he was in charge of Detroit's Police Athletic League.

Chris Spielman

Charles Christopher Spielman (born October 11, 1965) is a former American football player and is currently an analyst for Fox NFL. He played linebacker at Ohio State University, where he was a two-time All-American, and for the Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL), where he was a three-time All Pro. He also played for the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns, and coached for the Arena Football League's Columbus Destroyers.

Lem Barney

Lemuel Joseph Barney (born September 8, 1945) is a former American football player.  A native of Gulfport, Mississippi, he played college football at Jackson State from 1964 to 1966.  He was drafted by the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) and played for the Lions as a cornerback, return specialist, and punter from 1967 to 1977.  He was selected as the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1967, played in seven Pro Bowls, and was selected as a first-team All-NFL player in 1968 and 1969. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992. He has also been inducted into the Detroit Lions Hall of Fame, the Jackson State Sports Hall of Fame, the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.

Alex Karras

Alexander George Karras (July 15, 1935 – October 10, 2012) was an American football player, professional wrestler, sportscaster, and actor. He was a four-time Pro Bowl player with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL), where he played from 1958 to 1970. As an actor, Karras played Mongo in the 1974 comedy film Blazing Saddles. He starred as Webster Long's (Emmanuel Lewis) adoptive father, George Papadopolis,  in the ABC sitcom Webster (1983–1989) alongside his wife Susan Clark.  Karras also had a prominent role in Victor/Victoria, starring Julie Andrews and James Garner. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Billy Sims

Billy Ray Sims (born September 18, 1955) is a former American college and professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for five seasons during the 1980s.  Sims played college football for the University of Oklahoma, where he was a two-time consensus All-American, and won the Heisman Trophy in 1978.  He was the first overall pick in the 1980 NFL Draft, and played professionally for the NFL's Detroit Lions. Sims was the last Oklahoma player taken Number 1 overall in the NFL Draft until quarterback Sam Bradford was taken first in the 2010 NFL Draft. He was given the nickname "Kung Fu Billy Sims" by ESPN's Chris Berman, after a game where the Detroit Lions played the Houston Oilers. In the NFL Films highlight, rather than be tackled during a rushing attempt, Sims ran at, jumped, and, while fully airborne, kicked Oilers Cornerback Steve Brown in the head.

Jason Hanson (born June 17, 1970) is an American retired football player who was a placekicker that spent his entire 21-year career with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). After playing college football with the Washington State Cougars, he was selected by the Lions in the second round  of the 1992 NFL Draft with the 56th overall pick. Hanson is tied with Lou Groza for the NFL record for the most seasons played with one team, and also holds multiple kicking and scoring records.

Dick LeBeau

Charles Richard "Dick" LeBeau ( lə-BOH; born September 9, 1937) is a former American football coach and cornerback who was last an assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL). He was active at field level in the NFL for 59 consecutive seasons – 14 as a player with the Detroit Lions and 45 as a coach. He is considered to be one of the greatest defensive coordinators of all time.  Considered an “innovator” and “defensive football genius”, LeBeau popularized the "zone blitz" when he was defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals in the late 1980s.
On February 6, 2010, LeBeau was selected into the 2010 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The entire 2010 Steelers team attended the induction ceremony.

Matthew Stafford

John Matthew Stafford (born February 7, 1988) is an American football quarterback for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He was raised in Dallas, Texas, and went to Highland Park High School. He attended the University of Georgia, where he played football for the Bulldogs, and was drafted by the Lions first overall in the 2009 NFL Draft.
Stafford is the fourth quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 5,000 yards in a single season, being one of three players to do it in 2011, and is the fastest player in NFL history to reach 30,000 yards in (109 games). Stafford also holds the NFL record for the most comeback wins in a season, recording eight in the 2016 NFL season. In 2017, he signed a $135-million contract extension with the Lions, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time.

Bobby Layne

Robert Lawrence Layne (December 19, 1926 – December 1, 1986) was an American football quarterback who played for 15 seasons in the National Football League. He played for the Chicago Bears in 1948, the New York Bulldogs in 1949, the Detroit Lions from 1950–1958, and the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1958–1962.
Layne was selected by the Bears with the third overall pick of the 1948 NFL draft. He played college football at the University of Texas. Layne was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1968. His number, 22, has been retired by the University of Texas Longhorns and Detroit Lions.

Lomas Brown

Lomas Brown Jr. (born March 30, 1963) is an American former college and professional football player who was an offensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for eighteen seasons in the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s.  Brown played college football for the University of Florida, and received consensus All-American honors.  A first-round pick in the 1985 NFL Draft, he played professionally for the Detroit Lions and four other NFL teams.  He is currently a color analyst for Lions radio broadcasts on WJR, as well as a commentator and analyst for ESPN and other television and radio networks.

Doak Walker

Ewell Doak Walker II (January 1, 1927 – September 27, 1998) was an American football player.  He played college football as a halfback at Southern Methodist University (SMU), where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1948.  Walker then played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) with the Detroit Lions for six seasons, from 1950 to 1955.
Walker was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1959 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986.  The Doak Walker Award, awarded annually since 1990 to the top running back in college football, is named after him.

Robert Porcher

Robert Porcher (; born July 30, 1969) is a former American football defensive end. He played college football for Willie Jeffries at South Carolina State University.  He played for the Detroit Lions his entire professional career. He retired before the 2004 season with 95.5 career sacks. Porcher has been involved in the Detroit community since his retirement.  He opened 3 businesses in Downtown Detroit: Detroit Breakfast House & Grill, Sweet Georgia Brown, and Seldom Blues.. The Businesses filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009. Porcher is perhaps best recognized as a standout with the Detroit Lions. A 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive-end, Porcher was a dominant pass-rush specialist and defensive leader.
During much of his 13-year playing career, he was one of the league's most productive and feared defensive ends. Originally a first-round draft choice in 1992 from South Carolina State University, Porcher played in 187 games (third all-time in Detroit history), and set a team record with 95.5 quarterback sacks during his career. He led Detroit in sacks eight times (also a Detroit record). He also became the first Lion to record double-digit sack totals in four consecutive seasons (1996–99).
Porcher earned trips to the Pro Bowl in 1998, 2000 and 2002. He also finished his career with 24 career games notching more than one sack. From 1996-01, Porcher garnered 68 sacks during that six-year period - which was the second-highest in the NFL during that span. His 673 career tackles are ranked seventh in Detroit Lions’ history.
Off the field, Porcher became actively involved in the community. His foundation for cancer research and relief fund raised thousands of dollars for programs at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Lions annual Man of the Year award is named the "Robert Porcher Man of the Year" in honor of his tremendous contributions to the community, especially in Detroit.
Porcher is now an entrepreneur, with various business interests - most notably food/hospitality in downtown Detroit: Detroit Breakfast House & Grill, Sweet Georgia Brown, and Seldom Blues.

Matthew Phillip Prater (born August 10, 1984) is an American football placekicker for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL).  He played college football for the University of Central Florida, and was originally signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2006. Prater holds the NFL record for kicking the longest field goal (64 yards), which he set on December 8, 2013, as a member of the Denver Broncos in a game against the Tennessee Titans in the first half as time expired. He also holds the Detroit Lions franchise record for longest field goal (59 yards), which he set on January 3, 2016. He was cut by the Denver Broncos after completing a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. With the Lions in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, Prater set the NFL records for consecutive field goal conversions of 50+ yards (14 field goals) and 55+ yards (seven field goals).

Glover Quin

Glover Freeman Quin Jr. (; born January 15, 1986) is a former American football safety. He played college football at New Mexico and Southwest Mississippi Community College, and was drafted by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He was also a member of the Detroit Lions for six seasons after spending his first four in Houston.

He played with the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions, Houston Oilers and Philadelphia Eagles. He began his professional career for the Los Angeles Express of the United States Football League (USFL), following his college football career as a running back at Purdue. Gray attended Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he was teammates with future NFL players Lawrence Taylor and Ron Springs.
Gray is widely considered to be one of the greatest return specialists of all-time in the NFL. He holds the record for being the first, second, and third-oldest player to return a kickoff for a touchdown (33 years, 276 days; 33 years, 235 days; and 33 years, 221 days).

Golden Tate

Golden Herman Tate III (born August 2, 1988) is an American football wide receiver for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Notre Dame, where he was recognized as an All-American, and was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He has also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions, with whom he made a Pro Bowl appearance.

Yale Lary

Robert Yale Lary Sr. (November 24, 1930 – May 11, 2017) was an American football player, businessman, and politician. 
He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979 and was also selected for the NFL 1950s All-Decade Team. He has also been inducted into the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
Lary played 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), all with the Detroit Lions, from 1952 to 1953 and from 1956 to 1964, missing the 1954 and 1955 seasons due to military service as an Army second lieutenant in Korea.  He played at the safety, punter, and return specialist positions, appeared in nine Pro Bowl games, and was a first-team All-NFL player five times.  He led the NFL in punting three times, and at the time of his retirement in 1964, his 44.3 yard punting average ranked second in NFL history, trailing only Sammy Baugh. He also totaled 50 NFL interceptions for 787 return yards, both of which ranked fifth in NFL history at the time of his retirement.
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Lary played college football at Texas A&M University from 1949 to 1951 and was selected as a first-team defensive back on the 1951 All-Southwest Conference football team. He also played baseball at Texas A&M, led his team to the 1951 College World Series, and set a Southwest Conference record for doubles.
