Ah, it&rsquo;s time for Walking Dead character comparisons, one of those ongoing pastimes of fans far and wide. The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is the man caught between two worlds: his original <a href="http://www.ranker.com/tags/comic-books?ref=internalCrossLinking_tag">comic books</a> series and his roles&nbsp;as&nbsp;executive producer and writer on the TV series.&nbsp;&nbsp; 
&nbsp; 
Kirkman gave the world a collection of rich characters in the bleak and exciting back drop of a zombie apocalypse. In the comics, Kirkman is judge, jury, and executioner along with Charlie Adlard, Tony Moore, and Cliff Rathburn.&nbsp;&nbsp; 
&nbsp; 
For the TV series, Kirkman must work with showrunner Scott Gimple and a cadre of writers. Since the TV series started with Frank Darabont before the hand off to Gimple and Kirkman, the characters have gone through various transformations, dipping away from or melding with other characters in the comics. In the case of the Dixon brothers, they didn&rsquo;t exist in the pages of Kirkman&rsquo;s comics and were created by Frank Darabont, Charles Eglee, and Jack LoGiudice.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Walking Dead character appearance is not just about resembling the comics, but finding actors who can handle the action, story content, heat, bugs, and grueling hours that the series requires of its cast. For example, comic book Rick and TV series Rick vibe the same but look different. However, Andrew Lincoln has proven that he IS Rick by now, although he&#39;s gotten to keep his hand... so far. But Coral sure got his eye shot out just like in the comic series. Ouch, buddy.&nbsp;

The Walking Dead casting directors, Sharon Bialy and Sherry Thomas (along with Gohar Gazazyan), have done a wonderful job keeping pace with the screen counterparts, added characters, character amalgams, and other alterations. It can&rsquo;t be an easy job, but when comic fans saw Michonne emerge from the darkness, there were genuine chills.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Initially the series was the perfect blend of horror and action, and its concept meant it would be able to tell different types of stories with interesting characters whenever things needed to be spiced up, but that&rsquo;s not what happened.

Around Season 2, the series&nbsp;became a source of constant <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/annoying-things-about-the-walking-dead/mel-judson" target="_blank">frustration for TWD&nbsp;fans</a>. As the show&nbsp;meandered and lurched on with no sense of an endgame the stories became dull, characters were sidelined, and new production teams rotated in&nbsp;again and again. As much as the show is about what happens to the living over time during a zombie apocalypse, walkers are still a force of nature. And just when you think you&#39;re in the clear, crunch.

Going out via a walker is not a pretty sight, especially for <a href="https://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/favorite-character-on-the-walking-dead" target="_blank">the show&#39;s characters</a>. Way before the rotating door walker took out Noah, poor Otis was struck down in the leg by Shane and left for walkers to dine upon in the moonlight. Aiden learned that being arrogant and stupid makes you just the right entr&eacute;e on a walker buffet. And Betsy&#39;s husband, David, went out just like he expected. Too bad she didn&#39;t get his note.&nbsp;

There are also the animals of TWD&nbsp;who end up on the wrong side of walker chompers.&nbsp;They, too, can be counted among the worst deaths from the series. The unnamed&nbsp;farm horse that rode into Atlanta with Rick? Totally didn&#39;t deserve to perish, although he did offer a good distraction while Rick hid in a tank. Buttons? He could have been Daryl&#39;s pal. They could have run in the fields together and had motorcycle vs. horse races. But no, <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-the-walking-dead-episodes/reference" target="_blank">hangry walkers</a> had to get him. And Tabitha. Poor sweet cheese-providing goat, walker-alarm Tabitha. She did not deserve to go out that way.

The Walking Dead&nbsp;has been around for a while now, which means the show&#39;s many characters have had the opportunity to make some absolutely idiotic decisions over the years. When you think about it, there is no way this group of survivors could actually survive given the choices they have made. However, they continue to eek out an existence in spite of numerous <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/alpha-best-villain-the-walking-dead/jonathan-kantor" target="_blank">villains</a>, the threat of zombies literally taking a bite out of them, and their penchant for making some of the worst decisions in the history of horror fiction.

To be fair, it&#39;s easy to sit on the couch and judge the actions of a group of people trying to survive the apocalypse, but many of the decisions the key characters have made on the series don&#39;t make a lot of sense. Arguably, some were made in the heat of the moment and were simply bad choices, but others qualify as the biggest bonehead moves in all of television.

There are several reasons why this season of The Walking Dead sucks. Some of those include Glenn&rsquo;s fake death last season, and&nbsp;his real death in the first episode of this season.&nbsp;That Negan cliffhanger was awful, the excruciating season premiere wasn&#39;t much better, and was&nbsp;followed by long, boring episodes with just a few gems sprinkled in. What in the hell is going on with <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-the-walking-dead-episodes/reference" target="_blank">The Walking Dead</a>?!

Ratings have steadily dropped since the Season 7 premiere, and how will showrunners Scott Gimple and David Kirkman stop the hemorrhaging? Maybe it&rsquo;s time to seriously consider ways to improve The Walking Dead, besides more Daryl nudity. But, yeah, more Daryl nudity wouldn&rsquo;t hurt.

One of the many mistakes The Walking Dead is making is that it&rsquo;s simply not keeping up with the times. TV is the new frontier of visual storytelling, with bolder and faster paced storylines. What might have worked even five years ago, doesn&rsquo;t work today. Since Kirkman first created the comic series 13 years ago, it wouldn&rsquo;t be a crime to seriously <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/walking-dead-characters-appearance/lisa-waugh">deviate from the source material</a> like other shows (cough, <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/game-of-thrones-book-vs-show-differences/lisa-waugh">Game of Thrones</a>, cough) have done, with great success.&nbsp;

We need The Walking Dead to stop sucking and we need that suckage to stop now. Here are a few ways TWD could pull out of the nose dive before it crashes into a quarry filled with walkers.

If you only watch The Walking Dead&nbsp;on TV and haven't read the comic book series, you really have no idea how dark and twisted this universe really is. Sure, there are some dark moments on the show, but the comic books make The Walking Dead on AMC look like iZombie. This list looks at the most gruesome Walking Dead moments that were way too graphic for TV, including sexual scenes, as well as scenes with gratuitous violence.One factor that sets the comic series and the TV series apart is how often characters hook up. There is a lot of sexual activity in the comic series, with juicy hookups left and right that you don't see in the show. However, an even bigger difference between the two mediums is how graphic and violent the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/tags/comic-books?ref=internalCrossLinking_tag">comic books</a>&nbsp;are when compared to their TV equivalent.This list will be updated once Season 7 airs, as there are definitely some upcoming scenes that you can almost guarantee won't make it to television.

Daryl Dixon

Daryl Dixon is a fictional character from the horror drama television series The Walking Dead, which airs on AMC in the United States and is based on the comic book series of the same name. He was created by writers Frank Darabont, Charles H. Eglee and Jack LoGiudice specifically for Norman Reedus after they liked his audition so much for Merle Dixon that they created an additional character for him. The character was introduced in the first season as a Southern expert tracker who constantly lives in the shadow of his older brother, Merle. Despite his ill temper and volatility, he is tolerated by the core group of survivors due to his skills in hunting animals and fearless efficiency in killing zombies.
After Merle's disappearance, Daryl begins to shed his aloof personality and starts to bond with the group, particularly Carol Peletier after her daughter's disappearance, and Beth Greene after the two are split off together in Season 4. The character eventually becomes the cooperative right-hand man and protector of protagonist Rick Grimes and leads several supply runs.

Glenn Rhee

Glenn is a fictional character from the comic book series The Walking Dead and is portrayed by Steven Yeun in the AMC television series of the same name. He is also voiced by Nick Herman in the video game of the same name, by Telltale Games. In the comics, he was known simply as Glenn and was not given a last name. Glenn was Maggie's boyfriend-turned-husband, and takes the role of surrogate father to Sophia following the suicide of Carol, her biological mother.
In the television series, he mentioned that his parents were Korean immigrants who lived in Michigan. Like the comics he is first seen saving the life of series protagonist Rick Grimes and he, and his group, bring them back to the Atlanta camp where he becomes the group's leader. Eventually when seeking shelter at the Greene farm he forms a crush on resident Maggie Greene, who forms a sexual relationship with him when she learns this, but she quickly realizes that she's fallen in love with him which makes him emotionally conflicted but eventually comes to terms with it.

Rick Grimes

Rick Grimes is a fictional character in the comic book series The Walking Dead and is portrayed by Andrew Lincoln in the television series of the same name. Created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore, the character made his debut in The Walking Dead #1 in 2003. The primary protagonist of both series, Rick Grimes is a small town sheriff's deputy who shares a son, Carl Grimes, with wife Lori Grimes. He awakens from a coma to find the world overrun with zombies, and a fight for survival ensues.
In the comic book series, Rick remains the longest-living survivor, followed closely behind by his son, Andrea, Carol's daughter, and Sophia's surrogate mother. In both mediums, Rick awakens from a coma into the apocalypse and searches for Lori and Carl and finds them in the Atlanta camp with his best friend, Shane, and becomes the group's leader. Although Rick quickly adapts to the notion of killing walkers, he retains his morality, which puts him at odds with Shane, whose own morality has diminished. Shane has turned into a survivalist, and his infatuation with Lori, spurred on by an affair with her in Rick's absence, makes him jealous of Rick.

Michonne

Michonne is a fictional character from the comic book series The Walking Dead and is portrayed by Danai Gurira in the television series of the same name. Armed with a katana and harboring a mysterious past, Michonne is introduced clothed under a hood and pulling the shackles of two reanimated corpses for protection and camouflage, which are soon revealed to be her deceased boyfriend and his best friend. In both mediums, she has a prominent role in the conflict between Woodbury and the Prison. In the comic book series, Michonne is introduced while saving the life of Otis. She is later accepted into the prison and forms a relationship with Tyreese until his death and later with Morgan, until he is killed as well. Later in the series, Michonne becomes more involved with the other survivors and eventually settles down with Ezekiel at The Kingdom, a safe haven in Washington, DC.
In the television series, Michonne saves the life of Andrea and the two spend eight months on the road together. They stumble upon the town of Woodbury, and Michonne is instantly suspicious of the town and The Governor.

Carol Peletier

Carol Peletier, or simply Carol, is a fictional character from the comic book series The Walking Dead and is portrayed by Melissa McBride in the American television series of the same name. Carol is introduced in the comics in the third issue of the first volume, "Days Gone Bye", in 2003, and the third episode of the first season of the television series in 2010, as a meek housewife and mother of Sophia at the survival camp in Atlanta, Georgia. Initially a recurring cast member, McBride was upgraded to a series regular position at the onset of the second season, and the character's role has predominantly increased since the fourth season. The character's arc has been described as a "hero's journey" by executive producer Scott M. Gimple, having made many difficult decisions in order to survive.
The direction of her character is contrasted between the two mediums. In the comic series, Carol exhibits a neurotic, self-centered, and naive demeanor. Throughout her time in the comics, she grows increasingly unstable, to the extent of self-destruction.

Hershel Greene

Hershel Greene is a fictional character from the comic book series The Walking Dead and is portrayed by Scott Wilson in the American television series of the same name. He is the widowed owner of a farm in Georgia and has previous experience in the veterinary fields. A devout Christian, with uncompromising morals and a stubborn attitude, Hershel remains fiercely protective of his large family, despite his many losses. In both mediums, he is initially introduced saving the life of Carl Grimes, the son of Rick Grimes after he is shot by one of Hershel's neighbors, Otis, and becomes the moral center of the group.
In the comic book series, Hershel is a farmer who initially exhibits a cold and cantankerous demeanor, before opening up to Rick Grimes and his fellow survivors, proving to be a gentle man at heart. He becomes a deeply religious man after the loss of his wife, and is of Jewish heritage. He spreads hope and reassurance to his fellow survivors, in particular, his second-born daughter, Maggie Greene and his youngest son, Billy Greene.

Maggie Greene is a fictional character from the comic book series The Walking Dead, portrayed by Lauren Cohan in the television series of the same name. She is Hershel Greene's daughter and Glenn's wife.
In both mediums, Maggie and Glenn form a relationship and eventually become a married couple. In the comic book series, Maggie, Hershel's second daughter of seven children, becomes the surrogate mother to Sophia Peletier following the suicide of the girl's biological mother. Maggie initially has insecurities about herself and appears physically and emotionally weak. However, as time passes, Maggie hardens and becomes severely independent. She leaves the Alexandria Safe Zone and relocates to the Hilltop Colony. Later, she becomes heavily involved with the war against the Saviours. Maggie stands up and encourages the people to follow Rick Grimes instead of Gregory and Negan. In result, she successfully overthrows Gregory and becomes the de facto leader of the Hilltop Colony. After the war, Maggie has a son named after her father, Hershel. She remains fiercely protective of her children, as well as Carl Grimes while remaining at odds with previous leader, Gregory.

Carl Grimes

Carl Grimes is a fictional character from the comic book series The Walking Dead and is portrayed by Chandler Riggs in the American television series of the same name, which airs on AMC in the United States. The character was created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore, and debuted in The Walking Dead #2 in 2003. In both forms of media, Carl is the son of primary protagonist Rick Grimes and is one of the longest-surviving characters.
In the comic book series, Carl begins as a normal and innocent child, but, as the events of the new world order force him to grow up, he becomes colder and competently makes sometimes brash decisions for the good of his group of friends. The character's development is similar in the television series, where he is a normal boy before adapting a callous and cold personality to survive. This behavior puts him into conflict with his father, who desires to maintain Carl's morality and innocence.

Tyreese Williams

Tyreese is a fictional character from the comic book series The Walking Dead and is portrayed by Chad Coleman in the American television series of the same name. He is a prominent character in both mediums, acting as Rick's right hand man of the comic book series, up until the end of "Made to Suffer".
Introduced in The Walking Dead #7, Tyreese is a strong-willed and devoted father and protecting leader of his fellow survivors. He is often conflicted with de facto leader Rick Grimes on his leadership and stability, but nevertheless remains loyal to him. A role model to his fellow survivors, particularly Rick's son, Carl Grimes, Tyreese is a strong and able-bodied fighter who favors a hammer as opposed to firearms in both mediums. Despite this, Tyreese is shown to suffer from emotional fragility, especially after the death of his daughter. He strongly rejects the nature of suicide, and remains unsympathetic to those who commit it. His death leaves a significant mark on the survivors, particularly his girlfriend, Michonne.
In the television series, Tyreese is the leader of a group which was once composed of 25 survivors.

Rosita Espinosa

Rosita Espinosa is a fictional character from the comic book series The Walking Dead and is portrayed by Christian Serratos in the American television series of the same name. She accompanies Eugene Porter and Abraham Ford on a mission to Washington, D.C. In the comic book series, she joins Rick Grimes' group after they leave Hershel Greene's farm and go to DC. In the television series, Rosita meets Tara Chambler and Glenn Rhee out on the road while with Abraham and Eugene on their way to Washington DC and soon joins Glenn's group, lead by Rick Grimes, after escaping Terminus, a false safe haven. Rosita continued Abraham's mission to get Eugene to DC. with Tara, Glenn and his wife Maggie Greene but when Eugene revealed he lied, they rejoin Rick's group once more.

Beth Greene is a fictional character from the American horror drama television series The Walking Dead. The character was created by season 2 showrunner Glen Mazzara, and is portrayed by Emily Kinney from the series' second season to its fifth season. Unlike many of the characters in the show, she has no counterpart in the graphic novels the series is based on. She is the daughter of veterinarian and farmer Hershel Greene and younger, half-sister of Maggie, and later joins the group of protagonist Rick Grimes after her family's farm is overrun by walkers.
Described as a source of optimism and hope for the group, often singing to help boost morale, Beth is soft spoken and a devout Christian teenager. After the loss of her mother, Beth attempts suicide but ultimately chooses to live. During the initial outbreak and beyond, Beth is a sheltered girl, but is eventually forced into hard laboring survival after the downfall of the prison. She forms a close bond with fellow survivor and group member Daryl Dixon, until her abduction.

Sasha is a fictional character from The Walking Dead, an AMC television horror drama series. The character was created by Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead comic book series which the show is based on and in which Sasha has no counterpart. Sasha, a former firefighter before the apocalypse, is among a large group of survivors from Jacksonville, Florida, led by her older brother, Tyreese. In Atlanta, Georgia, the group comprises five people when they encounter Rick Grimes and his group of survivors. After living in Woodbury, she returns to the prison with the other newcomers, becoming a council member on behalf of the community. Following the destruction of the prison, she forms a romantic relationship with fellow survivor, Bob Stookey and later becomes a pivotal member to Rick's surviving group. She acts as the primary sharpshooter at the Alexandria Safe Zone on the bell tower.
Over the course of the series, the character gradually becomes a colder, more hardened individual, especially with the deaths of her loved ones. Sasha has been described as a realist who demonstrates a pragmatic approach to survival.

The character's death in the latter half of the second season of the show marks a significant departure from the comics, where Dale survived much longer. In both media, he is shown to be the wisest member of the survivor group, as well as its primary moral center.

Merle Dixon

Merle Dixon is a fictional character from the horror drama television series The Walking Dead, which airs on AMC in the United States and is based on the comic book series of the same name. He was created by series developer Frank Darabont and portrayed by Michael Rooker. The character was first introduced in the first season as a Southern redneck hunter who has a younger brother, Daryl. He is misogynistic and racist, which causes tensions between him and his group of survivors. Following an encounter with series protagonist Rick Grimes, Merle disappears and joins the community of Woodbury, Georgia, where he becomes the right-hand man of The Governor. He becomes caught in the conflict between The Governor and Rick especially when nobody in Rick's group wants him in the group, except for Daryl.
The character's introduction garnered negative reviews from professional critics, but fan response was positive. When the character reappears in the third season, reviewers began to have more favorable views towards him. Merle is an original character in the television series and shares no counterpart in the graphic novels.

Tara Chambler

Tara Chambler is a fictional character from the horror drama television series The Walking Dead, which airs on AMC in the United States and is based on the comic book series of the same name. The character is based on Tara Chalmers from The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor, a novel based on the comic book series and the past of The Governor. She is portrayed by Alanna Masterson. She is the first LGBT character to be introduced in the series.
Tara's family encounters The Governor, using an alias, and they invite him into their apartment complex. Later, Tara's sister, Lilly, formed a relationship with him, although Tara remained fiercely protective of her sister and her niece. Eventually, after her father dies, The Governor and Tara's family leave the apartment complex and find Martinez's camp. As The Governor coerces the people of the camp to attack the prison, Tara discovers the true brutality and vendetta he maintains, and is traumatized when he murders Hershel. After the downfall of the prison, Glenn Rhee comes to Tara for help in finding his wife, Maggie, Hershel's daughter, after she escaped during the gunfire.

T-Dog

Theodore "T-Dog" Douglas is a fictional character from the horror drama television series The Walking Dead, which airs on AMC in the United States and is based on the comic book series of the same name. He was created by series developer Frank Darabont and portrayed by IronE Singleton. The character was first introduced in the first season as a member of the group that series protagonist Rick Grimes encounters in Atlanta. T-Dog was portrayed as a well-intentioned and kindhearted man towards his fellow survivors, although he struggles to prove his worth in the group. The character eventually adapts to the group and becomes one of the right-hand men of Rick.
T-Dog is an original character in the television series and has no counterpart in the graphic novels. Singleton made several recurring appearances as the character in the show's first through third seasons. The character ultimately met mixed reception, with the criticisms of professional reviewers claiming that T-Dog lacked character development and dialogue, while praise was directed towards his increased dialogue in the third season, and the heroic nature of his death.
