However, the show's cult status and passionate fanbase transformed it into one of the most famous and iconic TV and film series of all time (and they even made a Star Trek video game series). There have since been numerous spin-off shows (including Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager.) Star Trek characters also spawned multiple film franchises. In addition to the films starring the original cast, and the group of films featuring Star Trek: The Next Generation characters, J.J. Abrams's 2009 reboot introduced a parallel Star Trek universe populated by new actors playing the classic heroes.
