Kratos

Kratos, the "Ghost of Sparta", is a fictional video game character from Sony Santa Monica's God of War series, which is loosely based on Greek mythology. Kratos first appeared in the 2005 video game God of War, which led to the development of six additional games featuring the character as the protagonist. Kratos also appears as the protagonist of the God of War comic series and novels. He has been consistently voiced by Terrence C. Carson, and Antony Del Rio voiced the character as a child in God of War: Ghost of Sparta.
In the series, Kratos embarks on a series of often forced adventures in attempts to avert disaster or to change his fate. He is usually portrayed as being oblivious to all else, often engaging in morally ambiguous activities and performing acts of extreme violence. He is a Spartan warrior who becomes the "Ghost of Sparta" after accidentally killing his family on behalf of Ares' trickery. Eventually revealed to be a demigod, he becomes the God of War after killing Ares. Each adventure forms part of a saga with vengeance as a central theme, providing additional information about Kratos' origins and his relationships with his family and the gods.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze

Ezio Auditore da Firenze is an Italian assassin and fictional character in the video game series Assassin's Creed. He serves as the protagonist of the franchise's series of games set in the Italian Renaissance. He appears in Assassin's Creed II, II: Discovery, Brotherhood, and Revelations, as well as the animated short film Embers. He also makes a brief animated appearance in Assassin's Creed III alongside Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.
Starting off as a young noble on a quest for revenge, Ezio is introduced to the order of Assassins, where he slowly learns to overcome his anger and embrace the order's teachings. Rising to the rank of Master Assassin in his later years, Ezio breaks the Borgias' dominance in Italy and restores the order's power, also doing so in Spain, Turkey, and indirectly, China and most of Europe. John-117 "Master Chief" is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Halo fictional universe, created by Bungie. Master Chief is a playable character in the series of science fiction first-person shooter video games: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4. Outside of video games, the character appears in novels – Halo: The Fall of Reach, Halo: The Flood, Halo: First Strike, and Halo: Uprising – and has cameos in other Halo media, including Halo: Reach, Halo: Ghosts of Onyx, The Halo Graphic Novel, Halo Legends and Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.
Master Chief is essentially the face of the Halo series. The character, as he appears in the double story arcs, can be described as a towering and faceless cybernetically-enhanced supersoldier; save for the first installment of the second story arc, he is never seen without his green-colored armor and helmet. The alias "Master Chief" arises from the two ranks which John holds throughout the later events of the Halo universe. By the end of the third installment of the first story arc, John-117 is canonically promoted, in absentia, to the rank of Master Chief Special Warfare Operator of the Navy.

Scorpion is a fictional character, a superhero in the Marvel Comics Universe. She first appears in Amazing Fantasy #7 and was created by Fred Van Lente and Leonard Kirk.

Lara Croft

Lara Croft is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Square Enix video game series Tomb Raider. She is presented as a beautiful, intelligent, and athletic English archaeologist-adventurer who ventures into ancient, hazardous tombs and ruins around the world. Created by a team at UK developer Core Design that included Toby Gard, the character first appeared in the 1996 video game Tomb Raider. She has also appeared in video game sequels, printed adaptations, a series of animated short films, feature films, and merchandise related to the series. Official promotion of the character includes a brand of apparel and accessories, action figures, and model portrayals. Croft has also been licensed for third-party promotion, including television and print advertisements, music-related appearances, and as a spokesmodel.
Core Design handled initial development of the character and the series. Inspired by Neneh Cherry and comic book character Tank Girl, Gard designed Lara Croft to counter stereotypical female characters. The company modified the character for subsequent titles, which included graphical improvements and gameplay additions.

Agent 47

Agent 47 is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Hitman franchise, created by the Danish company IO Interactive. The franchise currently consists of six Hitman video game titles and the two novels: Hitman: Damnation and Hitman: Enemy Within. A 2007 film adaptation of the game was produced by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation with Timothy Olyphant playing Agent 47. In 2013, Fox International Productions plans to remake Hitman and change the title to Hitman: Agent 47. In this remake, actor Rupert Friend will be taking over the role of Agent 47.

Sub-Zero

Sub-Zero is a video game character from the Mortal Kombat series and one of the original characters in the first Mortal Kombat game in 1992. A mainstay of the series, Sub-Zero is the only character who has appeared in every main Mortal Kombat fighting game. The character also appears in many other Mortal Kombat media works such as the Mortal Kombat live action film series and animated series.
The character is a formidable fighter possessing the innate ability to control ice in many forms. In his first return appearance in Mortal Kombat II, it was revealed that the original Sub-Zero had died during the events of the first game and was replaced by his younger brother. In subsequent games, the younger brother remained as Sub-Zero, while the elder brother became Noob Saibot. The most defining trait of the character is his fierce rivalry with his archnemesis Scorpion.
His backstory has been explored in various Mortal Kombat games and other media. Sub-Zero has received positive reception and gained a high popularity, including being featured on multiple lists of the best video game ninja characters.

Nathan Drake

Nathan "Nate" Drake is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Uncharted video game series, developed by Naughty Dog. He appears in all four games: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and will appear in the upcoming sequel, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. He also appears in the motion comic prequel series Uncharted: Eye of Indra. He is played by actor Nolan North, who influenced Drake's personality by ad-libbing segments of the character's dialogue.
Naughty Dog based Drake's appearance and personality on daredevil Johnny Knoxville, actor Harrison Ford, and the heroes of pulp magazines, novels and films. To make him relatable, the character was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, and given an everyman persona; he is strong-willed, and often jokes and quips. The designers focused on giving him realistic reactions to his environment; for example, he stumbles while running, barely clears objects during leaps, and recognizes the absurdity of the situations in which he finds himself.
Nathan Drake has been called the mascot of the PlayStation 3 game console, and is increasingly identified with the platform.

Dante

Dante is a fictional character and the primary protagonist of the Devil May Cry series created and published by Capcom. In the first four games, Dante is a mercenary, private investigator, and demon hunting vigilante dedicated to exterminating them and other malevolent supernatural foes, a mission he follows in pursuit of those that killed his mother and corrupted his brother. He is the son of Sparda, a demon of great power and as a result of his heritage, he possesses numerous powers beyond that of any human, which he uses in combination with a variety of weapons to accomplish his goals. The character also appears in several Devil May Cry novels and manga volumes; and is featured in the 2007 anime TV series. A reboot of the series by Ninja Theory features him in an alternate universe as a young adult fighting against demons. Dante has also appeared as a guest character in multiple crossover games.
The character was designed to fit Devil May Cry game designer Hideki Kamiya's vision of a "cool and stylish" man, and his personality was based on the titular character of the manga series Cobra.

Doomguy

The Doomguy, commonly known as the Marine and referred to as the Doom Slayer in the rebooted portion of the series, is the unnamed player character in the Doom video game franchise of first-person shooters created by id Software, and its sequels and spin-off media. He is a space marine dressed in green combat armor who does not speak onscreen. 
Considered a symbolic and iconic protagonist and character, the original depiction of Doomguy does not have a defined personality and barely portrays a predefined character. According to designer John Romero, he is meant to represent "the player itself". In 2017, Romero stated that he was the original model of the character for the cover box art.

Leon S. Kennedy

Leon Scott Kennedy is a fictional character in the Resident Evil horror media franchise by Capcom. He debuted as one of the two playable protagonists of the video game Resident Evil 2. Leon later returned as the main character of Resident Evil 4 and as one of the six protagonists in Resident Evil 6. The character was met with positive critical reception.
During the events of Resident Evil 2, Leon is a rookie police officer who arrives in the doomed Raccoon City late for his first day on the job, only to confront a zombie outbreak first-hand. During the course of the game, he teams up with civilian survivor Claire Redfield, rescues the young Sherry Birkin, and is aided by the mysterious Ada Wong. Six years later, in Resident Evil 4, Leon returns as a secret agent for the U.S. federal government assigned to rescue the president's daughter from a sinister cult. In Resident Evil 6, he continues to work for the U.S. government and reunites with Ada and a grown-up Sherry.

Link refers to several different incarnations of the same protagonist of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series. Link has been featured in other media from Nintendo, including its merchandising, comic books, and a cartoon series.
Link is depicted as a child, teenager, or adult of the Hylian race, originating from the fictional land of Hyrule. Link often travels through Hyrule, defeating creatures, evil forces, and the series' primary antagonist, Ganon, while attempting to save Princess Zelda and Hyrule. To defeat him, Link usually requires the mystic Master Sword and Light Arrows, or a similar legendary weapon, obtained after many trials and battles, and magical objects or using other items such as musical instruments and weaponry.

Solid Snake

Solid Snake is a fictional character and one of the main protagonists of Konami's Metal Gear series created by Hideo Kojima. The Metal Gear Solid games has Japanese voice actor Akio Ōtsuka providing the character's Japanese voice while actor and screenwriter David Hayter provides the character's English voice.
Snake is a combination of a spy, mercenary and special operations agent. A member of FOXHOUND, he is often tasked with disarming and destroying various models of the bipedal nuclear weapon-armed mecha known as Metal Gear. Controlled by the player, he must act alone, supported via radio by commanding officers and specialists. While his first appearances in the original Metal Gear games were references to Hollywood films, the Metal Gear Solid series has given a consistent design by artist Yoji Shinkawa alongside an established personality. The character Solid Snake has been well-received by critics.

Mario is a fictional character in the Mario video game franchise by Nintendo, created by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Serving as Nintendo's mascot and the eponymous protagonist of the series, Mario has appeared in over 200 video games since his creation. Depicted as a short, pudgy, Italian plumber who resides in the Mushroom Kingdom, he repeatedly rescues Princess Peach from the Koopa villain Bowser and stops his numerous plans to destroy him and take over the kingdom. Mario also has other enemies and rivals, including Donkey Kong and Wario.
Mario is said by many to be the most famous character in video game history. Mario games, as a whole, have sold more than 210 million units, making the Mario franchise the best-selling video game franchise of all time. Outside of the Super Mario platform series, he has appeared in video games of other genres, including the Mario Kart racing series, sports games, such as the Mario Tennis and Mario Golf series, role-playing video games such as Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG, and educational games, such as Mario Is Missing! and Mario's Time Machine. He has inspired television shows, film, comics and a line of licensed merchandise. Since 1995, he has been voiced by Charles Martinet, who first got the role in 1990.

Cloud Strife is a fictional character and the main protagonist of Square's role-playing video game Final Fantasy VII and several of its sequels and spin-offs. He was originally designed by Final Fantasy VII character designer Tetsuya Nomura. Cloud's appearance is marked by spikey blond hair, striking blue eyes, dark clothing and his Buster Sword, which previously belonged to his friend Zack Fair.
In Final Fantasy VII, Cloud is a mercenary and self-proclaimed ex-member of SOLDIER, an elite, genetically augmented military unit operating under the de facto world government, the megacorporation Shinra Electric Power Company. Fighting against Shinra in the resistance group AVALANCHE, and driven by a feud with the primary antagonist, Sephiroth, Cloud learns to accept his troubled past and adapts to his role as a leader. Cloud has also appeared in several other titles outside the Final Fantasy VII continuity, such as Itadaki Street Special, Final Fantasy Tactics, Dissidia Final Fantasy, Ehrgeiz and the Kingdom Hearts series.
Cloud has garnered a primarily positive reception from critics. Described as "iconic," the character has been ranked highly in various published character lists.

Captain Price

Captain John Price is a major fictional character in the Call of Duty series and one of the two main protagonists, appearing as an experienced soldier and a strong leader in the series. He is somewhat compassionate, but can be ruthless at times. Price was well received by critics and fans alike, being listed as the 17th top video game characters of Guinness World Records 2011 Gamers' Edition.
Captain Price first appeared as a British soldier featured in Call of Duty and Call of Duty 2 as a member of the British Army and British SAS during World War II. He appears again as John Price in the Modern Warfare series, where he is playable in two flashback missions in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and in the final mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. He is one of the three characters that appeared in all three Modern Warfare games. The others were John "Soap" MacTavish and Nikolai. In every game developed by Infinity Ward there has been a Captain Price.

Samus Aran

Samus Aran is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Metroid science fiction action-adventure game series by Nintendo. She was introduced in the 1986 video game Metroid.
Samus Aran is an ex-Galactic Federation soldier who turned into an intergalactic bounty hunter, usually fitted with a powered armor suit with weapons that include directed energy weapons and missiles. Throughout the series, she executes missions given to her by the Galactic Federation while hunting the antagonistic Space Pirates and their leader Ridley along with the parasitic energy-draining organisms called Metroids.
Samus has appeared in all Metroid video games and has also been featured in media outside of the series, including the comic book version of Captain N: The Game Master and the Super Smash Bros. series. She is well known as one of the earliest female protagonists in video game history and has remained a popular character over a quarter-century after her first appearance.

Starkiller, born Galen Marek and also known as The Apprentice, is the Dark Jedi anti-hero main protagonist of the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed project. The character's likeness and voice are provided by Samuel Witwer. Raised by Darth Vader, he is made the secret apprentice under the name "Starkiller" due to being potent with using the Force for destructive purposes and described as less of an assassin and more of a "Force wrecking ball". The character's name is taken from Luke Skywalker's original name "Annikin Starkiller".
IGN called Starkiller's story "nice and complete". Game Informer, UGO Networks and GameDaily also gave good reviews. However, GamesRadar has criticized Starkiller's design. In GameSpot's vote for the greatest video game character of all time, Starkiller was eliminated in round 1 against Niko Bellic.
