Tattoos are much more accepted nowadays than they used to be. In the past, tattoos had a certain negative connotation associated with them. While that&#39;s not entirely gone now, it&#39;s definitely subsided considerably. With that in mind, it might be surprising to learn that there are many world leaders with tattoos, and even more past world leaders with tattoos than you would have ever expected.&nbsp;

President Barack Obama might not have any tattoos (that we know of), but a couple of former US&nbsp;presidents certainly did. Canadian&nbsp;Prime Minister Justin Trudeau&nbsp;has a tattoo, and there are several congressmen and congresswomen past and present who have tattoos. Tattoos are all over the political landscape, but many politicians choose to keep them out of sight when it comes time for pictures.

There still aren&#39;t any world leaders with face tattoos, but the Czech Republic almost claimed that throne when&nbsp;Vladimir Franz -&nbsp;a man with a full-fledged face tattoo - ran for president. It&#39;s becoming more and more acceptable for politicians with tattoos to put them on public display, though many, if not most, still choose to keep them covered most of the time.

Historical Figures

Some of <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/most-cruel-rulers-in-history-besides-hitler/michael-anderson" target="_blank">history&#39;s most notorious despots </a> demanded absolute authority over their states, but could never claim it over their own bodies. All of the rulers on this list are believed to have suffered from various afflictions, ranging from the curable to the fatal. In some cases, these afflictions shaped their reigns and reputations by exacerbating their worst and most vicious impulses. The medical conditions don&#39;t excuse their deeds. The belief that Adolf Hitler suffered from Parkinson&#39;s, for example, does not explain the <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/photos-of-concentration-camps-in-the-holocaust/philgibbons" target="_blank">Holocaust </a> or encourage a more sympathetic view of one of history&#39;s biggest villains. It simply presents context to understand his rule in Germany. Despotic rulers&#39; conditions provide a window into how the precarious health of those in power can shape history, for better or for worse.

They don&#39;t hand out nicknames like &quot;the Great&quot; to just anyone. History has seen its share of the Greats, with the works and deeds of such titleholders varying as much as their origins, eras, and cultures. How does one achieve &quot;the Great&quot; status, or quantify such a distinction? Plenty of ways. The number of buildings or statues constructed, for example. Or the amount of art produced. How about progress in science, technology, or medicine? Improvements to political structures?

Then again, this lofty title is often bestowed upon those who earned it the hard way - the bloody way. You can&#39;t expand borders, conquer armies, and exponentially enhance wealth without breaking a few eggs. Some so-called Greats have broken the boundaries, taboos, or social structures of their time. Some have been tyrants, others beneficent caretakers, and others still have been various shades in between. The stone cold fact about being a dictator is that you get to be obsessed with whatever you want. Many strongmen have applied this to personal wealth, stockpiling vast hordes of cash, luxury goods, and homes. But sometimes dictators become fixated on things that are more unique. Often it&#39;s extremely unusual, but sometimes, it&#39;s as mundane as some food they like.

Fidel Castro was obsessed with ice cream and milk. Ugandan tyrant Idi Amin had a fixation with Scotland that bordered on demented. And Joseph Stalin spent the last years of his life doodling cryptic comments and jokes on classical nude drawings. Kim Jong Un reportedly has gorged himself on Swiss cheese to the point of crippling physical illness. Why did any of these dictators do these things? Because they could, of course.

Here are some of the most bizarre obsessions of dictators of the last century.

When presidents or prime ministers are elected, there&#39;s an expectation the individuals will spend a certain number of days, weeks, and months in service to the government and the people. It extends even further when monarchs accede to the throne, often thought to their role&nbsp;for years or decades.&nbsp;

While&nbsp;leadership positions can come with terms of office attached to them or be (theoretically) for life, that&#39;s not always how events have played out. Coups, untimely deaths, scandal - these can all result in a quick and sudden end to one&#39;s term. From the violent ousting of a president or a smooth transition between prime ministers, a short time in office&nbsp;may result in an individual being completely overlooked.&nbsp;

Power does interesting things to people. Whether power truly corrupts, or whether positions of power just happen to attract terrible people, time and time again we see historical figures who were terrible bosses and treated their staffs terribly. History is littered with dictators, despots, and military strongmen who terrorized their people, their countries, and the rest of the world.However, it isn’t just the dictators who abuse their positions of power. More mundane world leaders can express their power in some very interesting ways, ranging from the petty to the outright dickish. As the unfortunate individuals who live to serve these world leaders’ every whims, the staff and servants are often the ones who suffer the most directly from their bosses’ predilections towards prickery. One can find all sorts of examples of powerful people who couldn’t help but mistreat their own staffs, as if gaining power over an entire country wasn’t enough confirmation of their self worth. It seems that no level of personal accomplishment can truly satisfy a bully.

From&nbsp;Game of Thrones&nbsp;to actual history, House of Cards&nbsp;to real world politics, it's no secret the worlds of real and fictional politics are cutthroat and terrifying. One day you're in, the next day you're out. So it should come as no surprise there's a long list of historical leaders whose advisors, family members, and confidants conned them. &nbsp;Some of these advisors wanted power, some wanted revenge, some wanted control. Others sought to oust a leader unfit for duty. The leaders who were tricked by these advisors didn't always deserve it, and many of them met tragic ends at the hands of their subjects, advisors, or country. &nbsp; &nbsp;If you think you're having a bad day, take a look at this list of people conned by their closest confidants. For instance, it is well-known that Ronald Reagan was an actor in Hollywood prior to pursuing his political career, and Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer - but how many people are aware that the current president of Ukraine and the current leader of Guatemala both portrayed fictional heads of state on television? Or that Harry Truman sold ties and belts as the co-owner of a haberdashery? Or that the current president of Turkmenistan previously worked on his predecessor&#39;s teeth?

Whether&nbsp;taken to support their family or help pay for schooling - or even in pursuit of a true passion - here are world leaders&#39; most surprising jobs&nbsp;before they rose to power.

Most people probably don’t think of dictators when they think about famous artists.&nbsp;Rembrandt, Picasso, Michelangelo, and Pollack (to name a few) might come to mind quicker, but believe it or not, there have been a few famous dictators who paint. Famine, destruction, and total ruin are more commonly associated with the word &quot;dictator,&quot; but these guys were just a bunch of dudes with hobbies just like the rest of us before they became totalitarian, barbaric narcissists with an insatiable and deranged taste for power.Don’t worry: your interest in this topic is totally normal. Just chalk it up to a psychological study by way of dictator art. What better way into the minds of the deranged than by examining their artistic expressions? That being said, there's only evidence of two major dictators who were artists: Adolf Hitler and Francisco Franco. The rest are either too antiquated to provide visual evidence (like Nero of ancient Rome)&nbsp;or have only dabbled in art, like Putin. How tall were leaders in the past? As in the 21st century, historical famous leaders&#39; height varied considerably, as did definitions of how tall or short a person was. But whether big or small, all of these rulers cast a shadow that exceeded&nbsp;their physical height.

Physical shapes and sizes were often useful political tools for hereditary monarchs and elected officials alike to validate their authority. But though society has used sizes to celebrate or denigrate those in power, these features never impacted a leader&#39;s ability to rule. From an enormous medieval king who stood head and shoulders above his subjects, to a short president of Mexico who had giant influence, historical leaders prove that a person&#39;s physical appearance or size does not determine their skills.

Men in power have always loved getting married or taking mistresses in order to have plenty of heirs, but who are the&nbsp;rulers with the most kids?&nbsp;Sometimes, these guys have gone a bit overboard when it comes to fathering children to carry on the family legacy and genetic heritage, fathering dozens or even hundreds of children. With all these royal babies running around, it's surprising there aren't more <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/babies-who-took-the-throne/nida-sea" target="_blank">child rulers in history</a>.&nbsp;So, which&nbsp;king had the most bastards? That honor probably goes to Augustus&nbsp;the Strong,&nbsp;born a German prince and elected king of Poland in 1697. While they may tower over peoples&#39; daily lives, many world leaders actually come up a bit short when it comes to height. In fact, throughout history many powerful leaders fell on the punier side,&nbsp;some not even making it to five&nbsp;feet! These super short historical figures&nbsp;still made a big impact on the world, and not always in a good way. One of the shortest leaders on this list was responsible for the death of about 20 million people. Do you think it&rsquo;s because he had a Napoleon complex? Fun fact:&nbsp;Napoleon Bonaparte is actually tied for the tallest of these short world leaders.

Some psychologists claim that <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/best-short-male-singers/celeb-stalker">short people in positions of power</a> tend to perceive themselves as being taller. Many members of the <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/british-monarchs-sizes/setareh-janda" target="_blank">British monarchy have equated their height to their royal power</a>. A lot of these short leaders also employ tricks to make themselves seem taller to the public, like manipulating camera angles and wearing platform shoes. You&rsquo;ll be really surprised at how short some of these leaders are (or were), because you probably expected them to be giants with all that power in their hands.

Power and height have been associated for a long time. However,&nbsp;in reality, most of our prominent world leaders aren&#39;t particularly tall.

Barack Obama stands about 6&rsquo;1&quot;, David Cameron the same, former prime minister of Canada&nbsp;Stephen Harper is&nbsp;about 6&rsquo;2&quot;. Tall, but not extremely impressive. There are some leaders of tremendous stature&nbsp;that stood over 6&rsquo;5&quot;, and one tremendous king who was over seven feet tall. Yes, these are indeed some wicked tall people from history.

Donald Trump shocked <a href="http://fortune.com/2016/10/10/donald-trump-threatens-jail-hillary-clinton/">both</a> Republicans and Democrats when he&nbsp;stated during the second presidential debate of 2016 that if he were president, Hillary Clinton would be in jail.&nbsp;“If I win, I am going to instruct my Attorney General to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation,” Trump said, referring to Clinton's email scandal. When Clinton later remarked that it's &quot;awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country,” Trump fired back:&nbsp;“Because you’d be in jail.&quot;While vowing to imprison a political opponent during a debate&nbsp;may be unprecedented in American politics, actually imprisoning political opponents is something that happens in authoritarian regimes with relative frequency. Politicians who jailed their opponents and critics include dictators and democratically elected presidents from around the globe. World leaders&nbsp;who jailed political opponents don't typically admit it, of course, but organizations such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and even the United Nations make strong cases that these corrupt practices occur, spurring other nations to sometimes intervene to try to rescue political prisoners.

Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972), known professionally as Eminem (; often stylized as EMINƎM), is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, record executive, film producer, and actor. Justin Drew Bieber (born March 1, 1994) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and actor. Discovered at 13 years old by talent manager Scooter Braun after watching his YouTube videos covering songs, he was signed to RBMG Records in 2008. Bieber then released his debut EP, My World, in late 2009. It was certified Platinum in the United States. With the EP, Bieber became the first artist to have seven songs from a debut record chart on the US Billboard Hot 100. Bieber released his first studio album, My World 2.0, in 2010. It debuted at number one in several countries, was certified triple Platinum in the US, and contained his single "Baby", which debuted at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold 12 million units.
Following his debut album and promotional tours, he released his 3D biopic-concert film Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and his second studio album, Under the Mistletoe (2011), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television judge. After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager. Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently began working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin. After adopting the stage name Katy Perry and being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.
Perry rose to fame in 2008 with her second album, One of the Boys, a pop rock record containing the singles "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot n Cold". Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro GOIH ComM (born 5 February 1985) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a forward for Serie A club Juventus and captains the Portugal national team. Often considered the best player in the world and  widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Ronaldo has a record-tying five Ballon d'Or awards, the most for a European player, and is the first player to win four European Golden Shoes. He has won 29 trophies in his career, including six league titles, five UEFA Champions Leagues, one UEFA European Championship, and one UEFA Nations League. A prolific goalscorer, Ronaldo holds the records for most goals scored in the UEFA Champions League (126) and the UEFA European Championship (9), as well as those for most assists in the Champions League (44) and the European Championship (6). He has scored  707 senior career goals for club and country.
Born and raised on the Portuguese island of Madeira, Ronaldo was diagnosed with a racing heart at age 15. He underwent an operation to treat his condition, and began his senior club career playing for Sporting CP, before signing with Manchester United at age 18 in 2003. Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter. She is known for narrative songs about her personal life, which have received widespread media coverage. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music. She signed with label Big Machine Records and became the youngest artist signed by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. Her 2006 eponymous debut album was the longest-charting album of the 2000s in the U.S., where it peaked at number five. The album's third single, "Our Song", made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number-one song on the Hot Country Songs chart. Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008. Buoyed by the success of pop crossover singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", Fearless became the best-selling album of 2009 in the U.S. The album won four Grammy Awards, and Swift became the youngest Album of the Year winner.

Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. (born September 27, 1982), known professionally as Lil Wayne, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record executive, entrepreneur, and actor. His career began in 1995, at the age of 12, when he was discovered by Birdman and joined Cash Money Records as the youngest member of the label, and half of the duo The B.G.'z, alongside fellow New Orleans-based rapper B.G. The duo then joined the southern hip hop group Hot Boys, with Cash Money label-mates Juvenile and Turk, in 1997, which foresaw the release of their debut album, Get It How U Live!, that same year. The group became popular following the release of the platinum-selling album Guerrilla Warfare (1999) and the 1999 single "Bling Bling". For many years, Lil Wayne was the flagship artist of Cash Money Records, before ending his long-tenured deal with the company in June 2018.Lil Wayne's solo debut album Tha Block Is Hot (1999) was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His subsequent albums, Lights Out (2000) and 500 Degreez (2002), went on to be certified gold. In March 2010, Lil Wayne began serving an 8-month jail sentence in New York after being convicted of criminal possession of a weapon stemming from an incident in July 2007. Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter (born September 4, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter and actress. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Beyoncé performed in various singing and dancing competitions as a child. She rose to fame in the late 1990s as lead singer of the R&B girl-group Destiny's Child, one of the best-selling girl groups in history. Their hiatus saw the release of her first solo album, Dangerously in Love (2003), which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and earned her five Grammy Awards. The album also featured the US Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy".

Usher Raymond IV (born October 14, 1978) is an American singer, songwriter and dancer. He was born in Dallas, Texas, but raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee until moving to Atlanta, Georgia. At the age of 12, his mother put him in local singing competitions, before catching the attention of a music A&R from LaFace Records. He released his self-titled debut album, Usher (1994) but rose to fame in the late 1990s with the release of his second album My Way (1997). It spawned his first U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one single, "Nice & Slow", among top-two singles "You Make Me Wanna..." and "My Way". 8701 (2001) produced the number-one singles "U Remind Me" and "U Got It Bad", as well as top-three single "U Don't Have to Call". It sold eight million copies worldwide and won his first two Grammy Awards as Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in 2002 and 2003.

Bon Jovi is an American rock band formed in 1983 in Sayreville, New Jersey. It consists of singer Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, guitarist Phil X, and bassist Hugh McDonald. Previous bassist Alec John Such was dismissed in 1994, and longtime guitarist and co-songwriter Richie Sambora left in 2013.
In 1984 and 1985, Bon Jovi released their first two albums and their debut single "Runaway" managed to crack the Top 40. In 1986, the band achieved widespread success and global recognition with their third album, Slippery When Wet, which sold over 20 million copies and included three Top 10 singles, two of which reached No. 1 ("You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Livin' on a Prayer") Their fourth album, New Jersey (1988), was also very successful, selling over 10 million copies and featuring five Top 10 singles (a record for a hard rock album), two of which reached No. 1 ("Bad Medicine" and "I'll Be There for You"). After the band toured and recorded extensively during the late 1980s, culminating in the 1988–90 New Jersey Tour, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora released successful solo albums in 1990 and 1991, respectively.
In 1992, the band returned with the double-platinum Keep the Faith. Oprah Gail Winfrey (born  Orpah Gail Winfrey, January 29, 1954) is an American media executive, actress, talk show host, television producer and philanthropist. She is best known for her talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show, broadcast from Chicago, which was the highest-rated television program of its kind in history and ran in national syndication for 25 years from 1986 to 2011. Dubbed the "Queen of All Media", she was the richest African American of the 20th century and North America's first black multi-billionaire, and has been ranked the greatest black philanthropist in American history. She has also been sometimes ranked as the most influential woman in the world.Winfrey was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and later raised in inner-city Milwaukee. She has stated that she was molested during her childhood and early teens and became pregnant at 14; her son was born prematurely and died in infancy. Winfrey was then sent to live with the man she calls her father, Vernon Winfrey, a barber in Tennessee, and landed a job in radio while still in high school. By 19, she was a co-anchor for the local evening news. Muse are an English rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. The band consists of Matt Bellamy (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chris Wolstenholme (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Dominic Howard (drums).
Muse signed to Maverick Records and released their debut album, Showbiz, in 1999, showcasing Bellamy's falsetto and a melancholic alternative rock style. Their second album, Origin of Symmetry (2001), incorporated wider instrumentation and romantic classical influences, and earned them a reputation for energetic live performances. Absolution (2003) saw further classical influence, with orchestra on tracks such as "Butterflies and Hurricanes", and was the first of five consecutive UK number-one albums.

U2 are  an Irish rock band from Dublin, formed in 1976. The group consists of Bono (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), the Edge (lead guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums and percussion). Initially rooted in post-punk, U2's musical style has evolved throughout their career, yet has maintained an anthemic quality built on Bono's expressive vocals and the Edge's effects-based guitar textures. Their lyrics, often embellished with spiritual imagery, focus on personal and sociopolitical themes. Popular for their live performances, the group have staged several ambitious and elaborate tours over their career.

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bean Bryant (August 23, 1978 – January 26, 2020) was an American professional basketball player. He played his entire 20-year career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Los Angeles Lakers. He entered the NBA directly from high school and won five NBA championships. Bryant was an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, 12-time member of the All-Defensive team and was the NBA's Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2008. His four All-Star MVP Awards are tied with Bob Pettit for the most in NBA history. At the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, he won gold medals as a member of the U.S. national team. In 2018, Bryant won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for his film Dear Basketball. Bryant, along with his daughter Gianna and three others, died on January 26, 2020, in a helicopter crash outside of Calabasas, California, at the age of 41.

LeBron Raymone James Sr. (; born December 30, 1984) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Ellen Lee DeGeneres ( də-JEN-ər-əs; born January 26, 1958) is an American comedian, television host, actress, writer, and producer.
She starred in the popular sitcom Ellen from 1994 to 1998 and has hosted her syndicated TV talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, since 2003.
Her stand-up career started in the early 1980s, and included a 1986 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. As a film actress, DeGeneres starred in Mr. Wrong (1996), EDtv (1999), and The Love Letter (1999), and provided the voice of Dory in the Pixar animated films Finding Nemo (2003) and Finding Dory (2016); for Nemo, she was awarded the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress, the first time an actress won a Saturn Award for a voice performance. In 2010, she was a judge on American Idol for its ninth season.
She starred in two television sitcoms, Ellen from 1994 to 1998, and The Ellen Show from 2001 to 2002. During the fourth season of Ellen in 1997, she came out as a lesbian in an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
