  • On May 22, 2020, Denzel Washington helped a homeless man he noticed was in distress in the streets of Los Angeles. Washington saw the man was facing oncoming traffic, and got out of his car to help bring him to safety. According to TMZ, Washington was wearing a protective mask, though the man was not.  

    Washington remained with the man when police arrived and served as a support and comfort for him. The man was detained and later released. TMZ speculated this could have been for the man's own safety.

  • On December 30, 2019, Leonardo DiCaprio was vacationing with some friends, including his girlfriend Camila Marrone, on a boat near St. Barts when they spotted a man who fell off a Club Med yacht and had been treading water for nearly 11 hours. DiCaprio helped rescue the stranded man and bring him to safety.

  • On January 6, 2020, former basketball player Shaquille O’Neal, while driving, spotted a woman collapsed in the street in the East Village neighborhood of New York City, stopped his car, and ran to check on her.

    According to TMZ, the woman may have been diabetic, causing her to faint in the middle of the crosswalk. Shaq and several other passersby held up traffic and waited with the woman for an ambulance to arrive.

    On August 7, 2019, actor Danny Trejo witnessed a car accident in Los Angeles that ended with one vehicle overturned and a child trapped inside. Trejo immediately jumped into action and attempted to crawl through a broken window in the car to free the child. He couldn't unhook the seatbelt from his position, and a bystander, Monica Jackson, stepped in to help. After both Jackson and Trejo rescued the boy, Trejo told a photographer, "The only thing that saved the little kid was his car seat." 

    Three people ended up in the hospital, but there were no life-threatening injuries. Trejo told CNN affiliate KABC, "Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else."
