Polish up your shoes and iron out that tux: it’s almost award season time. The 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards is set to air live on January 10th. The official nominations will not be announced until December 10th, but it’s never too early to predict which names will appear on the final ballot. Here are the most likely 2016 Golden Globe nominees for Best Actor in a Comedy Movie.
Update: The nominees for Best Actor in a Comedy were announced on December 10, 2015.
Last year, Michael Keaton won the Golden Globe in this category for his stellar performance in Birdman. Right now, it seems like this is Matt Damon’s (The Martian) race to lose. Damon won a Golden Globe back in 1997, not for his acting, but for his screenwriting, alongside Ben Affleck, for Good Will Hunting. Damon has been nominated for a Golden Globe five times but has yet to take home a statue in the acting department. A Golden Globe win could boost his Academy Award chances in February.
Several candidates this year are not typically actors associated with comedy. We could see drama veterans Robert De Niro (The Intern), Al Pacino (Danny Collins), Joaquin Phoenix (Irrational Man), and Ben Kingsley (Learning to Drive) receive a nod. Additionally, Steve Carell (The Big Short), Bradley Cooper (Burnt), and Mark Ruffalo (Infinitely Polar Bear) are all considered among the best comedic actors from this year.Make your voice heard. Vote up the men who you think were the best actors in 2015 comedy movies.
