The 2016 Golden Globes nominations have arrived! While the nominees start optimistically practicing their speeches, it’s time for the rest of us to predict the winners. That’s right, it’s time to answer the big question: Who should win the 2016 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Movie - Comedy or Musical? The 2016 nominees for best actress in a comedy or musical were released on December 10, so out of the nominations, who do you think should win? These five nominees were selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association from the scores of amazing comedic performances in movies this past year. While Amy Schumer, Jennifer Lawrence, Lily Tomlin, Maggie Smith, and Melissa McCarthy were all noteworthy in their own right, only one actress’s name can be in that little envelope.
Jennifer Lawrence is seen as a potential frontrunner by critics and oddsmakers alike for her performance in Joy. Don’t count out the rest of the nominees, though. Amy Schumer had a breakout role in Trainwreck and Melissa McCarthy gave one of her best performances to date in Spy. Maggie Smith and Lily Tomlin are living legends that could each win despite their lower profile roles.
No category is without controversy. While many comedy fans may believe think Blythe Danner (I'll See You in My Dreams) was snubbed, these are the remaining five who now have the chance to take home the 2016 Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy film. Vote up the actresses you believe were golden, and vote down any you think shouldn’t even get to walk the red carpet.
