The biggest snubs of the 2016 Oscar nominations highlight the best films, actors and filmmakers that were well deserving of a nomination or two at the 2016 Academy Awards but were shockingly overlooked. We could have all guessed that The Revenant would clean up with a dozen or so nominations (which it did), but who would have thought that these other outstanding films and performances would get snubbed?
You'd think that with seven nominations in major categories, including Best Picture, that The Martian would get some love for director Ridley Scott yet this work was snubbed in the Best Director category. It wasn't the only snub in that category though with Quentin Tarantino (for The Hateful Eight), David O. Russell (for Joy) and Steven Spielberg (for Bridge of Spies) also failing to get nominations.
The Best Picture category wasn't shy about nominating a total of eight films this year, but sadly none of those included The Hateful Eight, Carol, Joy, Creed or Straight Outta Compton. Funny how some of the most-talked-about films from the year will be sitting at home come Oscar night in February watching their peers at the ceremony. While not every great film, filmmaker, actor or actress can be nominated, it still seems shocking that these Oscar favorites were snubbed.
