The 88th Academy Awards will air live on February 28, 2016. The Oscars are considered the most prestigious of all the awards shows and often the debate among who should win, or even be nominated, stirs up a lot of controversy. Here are the nominees for the 2016 Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Among the five Oscar nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role, only Eddie Redmayne has won an Academy Award for acting. That was just last year for his performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. You may remember a young Matt Damon taking home an Oscar for screenwriting in 1998 for Good Will Hunting. The actor also has two other previous nominations for Best Actor.
Although Bryan Cranston has a shelf full of awards for his role as a high school chemistry teacher turned meth dealer on TV's Breaking Bad, this is the actor’s first Academy Award nomination. Michael Fassbender has one other Oscar nomination for 12 Years a Slave.
Which brings us to Leonardo DiCaprio, who is currently the odds on favorite to finally take home an Academy Award, after four previous acting nominations. DiCaprio won the Golden Globe for Best Actor this year, and although that doesn’t guarantee anything, it certainly improves his chances with the Academy. However, nothing is certain until the ballot is opened on February 28. Make your voice heard and vote up the actors you think will win the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
