Lesley Manville was nominated for her maternal role in the coming-of-age drama Lady Bird, and Allison Janney took on the role of controversial figure skater Tonya Harding's mother in I, Tonya. The Shape of Water received the most award nominations of 2018, including a Best Actress nomination for Octavia Spencer. It's hard to say who deserves the Best Supporting Actress Oscar given this incredible group of nominees.
