In a diverse roundup of the years best Rom-Coms, musicals, and dramatic stories, this year's potential nominees of best comedy or musical were like no other.

From the whimsical caricatures of The Promto the quirky infinite storyline of Palm Springs, these unique comedies were brought a fresh perspective to the genre. While Jason Woliner's directorial debut for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm stretched the barriers of moral integrity, Lin-Manuel Miranda's passionate on-stage history lesson Hamilton brought the power of musical storytelling to the masses. Any of these films are strong contenders for the award.
