The action genre has snagged attention from the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences (i.e., Mad Max: Fury Road's slew of Oscar noms) and The Fast and the Furious franchise has made a huge fan out of acclaimed author Roxane Gay. Even though the dialogue is sometimes silly, the scenarios are often unrealistic, and the characters are a bit one dimensional, there's something deeply invigorating about a quality action flick.
