Chances are, you totally forgot about many of the famous actors in Harry Potter movies. Over the course of eight feature-length Harry Potter movies, it became practically a rite of passage for British thespians to grace at least one of those big-budget fantasy films, even if it was just to pop in for a quick cameo.

Some of the actors you forgot were in Harry Potter movies include stars like Robert Pattinson and Scarlett Byrne, who were just starting out in the industry at the time. On the other hand, some others, like John Cleese and Kenneth Branagh, were already veteran performers on the big screen.

Which famous extras in Harry Potter films did you totally forget about? Which popular actor played the best muggle or wizard? From Potter friends to foes, here are some famous actors who are forever a part of the Harry Potter universe.

  • Verne Troyer played a goblin named Griphook in the first installment of the series, 2001's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The late actor was replaced by Warwick Davis for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Davis actually performed the voice work for Troyer in the first film. 

    Most people know the 2-foot-8-inch actor from his memorable role as Mini-Me in two Austin Power movies, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Austin Powers in Goldmember. The actor also had minor roles in several other films including Mighty Joe Young and The Love Guru. Troyer became a reality television star with appearances as himself in Celebrity Big Brother and The Surreal Life.

    Michelle Fairley played Hermoine Granger's mother Mrs. Granger in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1. The English Muggle works as a dentist.

    Fairley is most recognizable for her role as Catelyn Stark from the HBO series Game of Thrones. The Irish actress has also appeared in the television miniseries 24: Live Another Day and in the popular USA Network series Suits as Ava Hessington.

  • Domhnall Gleeson played Ron's oldest brother Bill Weasley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Bill is a pure-blood wizard and Hogwarts School alum. 

    Gleeson is best known for his starring movie roles in About Time, Ex Machina, and Brooklyn. The Irish actor also played the villainous General Hux in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

  • Julianne Hough had a small cameo as an unnamed Gryffindor student in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

    Most people know Hough as one of the professional dancers on Dancing with the Stars, where she won two championships alongside her celebrity dancing partners. Hough also served as a judge on the popular ABC reality series. She transitioned to acting in 2010 in the musical Burlesque. The Emmy-winner also starred in the 2011 remake of Footloose and the comedy musical Rock of Ages.
