List Rules What would you do for the thrill of it? Jump out of an airplane? Swim with crocodiles? Read a book on your couch?

As actor Jerry Lewis once put it, "Adrenaline is wonderful. It covers pain. It covers dementia. It covers everything." But what is adrenaline, exactly? It is a type of stress hormone, also known as epinephrine, that is responsible for our bodies “fight-or-flight” response. Basically, when people are presented with a threat, whether it be mental or physical, the brain tells the adrenal glands, the stress hormone is released, turned into dopamine, then adrenaline.

Many people enjoy the overwhelming and exciting feelings of euphoria that can accompany adrenaline rushes – some maybe a little too much (read: "adrenaline junkies"). The effects of adrenaline can be quite enjoyable, which is why people often seek ways to experience one. It is why people sometimes do seemingly silly, outrageous things like jump out of a helicopter with a stranger strapped to their back or jump into a dark ocean to frolic with sharks. They are doing it for "the thrill of it."

Below are some of the best activities to do for an adrenaline rush. What are some things you have done that have given you an adrenaline rush? Is there anything you wouldn't do, regardless of how exciting it would be?

Sky Diving

Jumping out of a plane with someone you just met is thrilling enough. But what makes the adrenaline rush of sky diving so great is that you have plenty, perhaps too much, time to psyche yourself out before actually doing it. Between the hours of training and the plane ride up, it takes a lot of will power and guts to be able to still go through with it!

Bungee Jumping

Free falling hundreds of feet is an appropriate activity to engage in if you are looking to reap the effects of an adrenaline rush. But free falling around rock walls and deep bodies of ocean is even more commendable when the only thing ensuring you live is a giant rubber band.

Roller Coasters

Going on a roller coaster is one of the best ways to get an adrenaline rush. Compared to to sky diving, amusement parks are both accessible and affordable. Plus, you get to choose the "level" of extreme you are willing to go – a baby one that only lasts a minute? Or a monster one that has been known to make people wet their pants? Either way, going on a roller coaster is a fun way to get an adrenaline rush because you aren't in it alone – you are with a dozen other people who are also momentarily screaming for their lives alongside you.

Cliff Jumping

If you are not ready to take the plunge (pun intended) of bungee jumping, cliff jumping may be an appropriate way for you to get an adrenaline rush. Just do yourself a favor and be sure you are jumping into a deep body of water, completely clear of any rocks, hard surfaces, or people.
