Masti was also amongst the low number of Bollywood adult comedy movies at the time of its release. It is the first installment of Masti film series.

The film received great reviews upon release, and was an superhit at the box office. It featured in top 3 grosser of that year.

Anil Kapoor was signed to play the lead initially, but he opted out of the film after the initial schedule to join Nayak. While Kasoor became a certified hit, Nayak became a flop.
