Bender Bending Rodríguez, commonly known as Bender, is a main character in the animated television series Futurama. Designated in-universe as Bending Unit 22, unit number 1,729, serial number 2716057, he was created by series creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, and is voiced by John DiMaggio. He fulfills a comic, antihero-type role in Futurama and is described by fellow character Leela as an "alcoholic, whore-mongering, chain-smoking gambler".
According to the character's back story, Bender was built in Mexico. Viewers are informed, through his own testimony, of Bender's prejudice against non-robots: His dialogue often contains anti-human expressions such as "kill all humans". Exceptions who are not subject to Bender's prejudicial attitude are those individuals on his "Do Not Kill" list, which seems to comprise only his best friend Fry and his colleague Hermes. However, Bender is also occasionally portrayed as possessing a sympathetic side, suggesting that he is not as belligerent as he claims, a view often echoed by his friends.

Philip J. Fry, commonly known simply by his surname, Fry, is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the animated sitcom Futurama. He is voiced by Billy West using a version of his own voice as he sounded when he was 25. He is a slacker delivery boy from the 20th century who becomes cryogenically frozen and reawakens in the 30th century to become a delivery boy there with an interstellar delivery company run by his descendant, Professor Farnsworth.

Zoidberg

Doctor John A. Zoidberg is a fictional character in the television series Futurama. He is a Decapodian, a lobster-esque alien who works as the staff doctor for Planet Express, despite his woeful understanding of human physiology and allusions to his questionable credentials. His character parodies the supposed wealth and automatic respect of modern doctors - for example, his woeful incompetence at human medicine makes him extremely poor despite his profession, and he's implied to be frequently homeless when not at work - and Decapod is an extended parody on Yiddish culture. Zoidberg is voiced by Billy West, who performs the character with a Yiddish-inflected accent inspired by actors George Jessel and Lou Jacobi.

Professor Farnsworth

Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth, or simply Professor, is a fictional character in the American animated television series Futurama. He is voiced by Billy West, using a combination of impressions of Burgess Meredith and Frank Morgan. Farnsworth is the mad scientist proprietor of the Planet Express delivery service, for whom the main characters work. He is the great nephew of Philip J. Fry, the series' main protagonist. He alternates between intelligence and amoral senility due to his centenarian age - he has always mastered any field of science necessary for the series' plots, and is implied to be one of the most brilliant inventors on Earth, but he falls asleep constantly, and he is implied to routinely have sent his former crews on suicide missions.

Leela

Turanga Leela, known simply by Leela, is a main character from the animated television series Futurama. Leela is ship captain, pilot, and head of all aviation services on board the Planet Express Ship. Throughout the series, she has an on-again, off-again relationship with Philip J. Fry, the central character in the series. The character, voiced by Katey Sagal, is named after the Turangalîla-Symphonie by Olivier Messiaen. She is one of the only characters in the cast to routinely display competence and the ability to command, and routinely saves the rest of the cast from disaster, but suffers extreme self-doubt because she has only one eye and grew up as a bullied orphan. She first believes herself an alien but later is revealed to be the least-mutated sewer mutant in the history of 31st-century Earth. Her family parodies aspects of pollution and undesirability associated with industrial New Jersey when compared with New York City.

Zapp Brannigan is a fictional character in the animated sitcom Futurama. He is voiced by Billy West, but was originally intended to be voiced by Phil Hartman, with West taking over the role after Hartman's death. The character is based on the Star Trek captain James T. Kirk, played by William Shatner. The show's executive producer David X. Cohen has described Brannigan as "half Captain Kirk, half actual William Shatner".
Brannigan is a 25-Star General in the Democratic Order of Planets, and captain of its flagship, the Nimbus. He is first introduced in the fourth episode of the series, "Love's Labours Lost in Space", in which he plays a major role. In the episode, Brannigan becomes enamoured with Leela, whom he attempts to woo for the remainder of the series. Brannigan is portrayed as a respected military hero in the eyes of his superiors and the general public, but strongly disliked by his own crew, most notably his long suffering second-in-command, Kif Kroker. Though famed for his bravery and strategic genius, it soon becomes very apparent that he is sexist, vain, and often very cowardly and inept.
