All Members of the House Greyjoy from the book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin and the HBO show "Game of Thrones." House Greyjoy is a prominent house of Westeros. Their coat of arms depicts a golden kracken and their motto is “We Do Not Sow.” House Greyjoy oversees the Iron Islands.

Who is the most prominent member of the House Greyjoy? Balon Greyjoy is Lord of the Iron Islands and father of Yara (Asha) and Theon Greyjoy. He appears in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series and is played by Patrick Malahide on "Game of Thrones." Balon Greyjoy turns his back on his son Theon after Ramsay Snow demands that Lord Balon remove his troops from the North in order to prevent further harm from coming to Theon.

Earlier in the series, Theon became a ward of the Starks after the Greyjoy rebellion. He was raised alongside the Stark children and became good friends with Robb. After Eddard Stark is killed, Theon betrays the Starks by seizing Winterfell and taking Bran and Rickon hostage.

    Balon Greyjoy is Lord of the Iron Islands and father of Yara (Asha) and Theon Greyjoy. He appears in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series and is played by Patrick Malahide on the HBO show Game of Thrones.

    Balon Greyjoy turns his back on his son Theon after Ramsay Snow demands that Lord Balon remove his troops from the North in order to prevent further harm from coming to Theon.

    In the television show, Balon is murdered by his brother, Euron. (In the books, his death is more ambiguous, though many suspect Euron's involvement.)

  • Alannys Harlaw

    Alannys Harlaw is the wife of Lord Balon Greyjoy and mother of Yara (Asha) and Theon. She is mentioned in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series as well as on the HBO show Game of Thrones.

    Lady Alannys eventually goes mad.

  • Theon Greyjoy is the son of Lord Balon Greyjoy. He appears in several of the A Song of Ice and Fire books and is played by Alfie Allen on the HBO show Game of Thrones.

    Theon becomes a ward of the Starks after the Greyjoy rebellion. He is raised alongside the Stark children and becomes good friends with Robb. After Eddard Stark is killed, Theon betrays the Starks by capturing Winterfell and taking Bran and Rickon hostage. Theon is eventually captured by Ramsay Snow (a bastard son of House Bolton) and is tortured and given the new name of Reek. He is reunited with his childhood friend, Sansa Stark, and together they escape Ramsay and Theon returns to his home in the Iron Islands, where he supports his sister Yara's claim to the throne.

  • Yara Greyjoy is the sister of Theon Greyjoy. She appears as Asha in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series and is played by Gemma Whelan on the HBO show Game of Thrones.

    Yara Greyjoy is a great warrior. When she learns that her brother Theon is being held and tortured by Ramsay Snow, she sets sail across the Weeping Water to attempt to rescue him. Though her rescue attempt fails when her psychologically broken brother refuses to leave captivity, she is later reunited with him. She later pledges to support Daenerys's claim on the Iron Throne in exchange for rule of the Iron Islands.

  • Maron Greyjoy

    Maron Greyjoy is the deceased son of Lord Balon Greyjoy and Lady Alannys. He died before the setting of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series and the HBO show Game of Thrones.

    Maron was killed during the Greyjoy rebellion against King Robert Baratheon.

    Status: Deceased (Before start of series)
  • Rodrik Greyjoy

    Rodrik Greyjoy is the deceased son of Lord Balon Greyjoy and Lady Alannys. He died before the setting of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series and the HBO show Game of Thrones.

    Rodrik was killed during the Greyjoy rebellion against King Robert Baratheon.

    Status: Deceased (Before start of series)
