Who is the most prominent member of the House Targaryen? Daenerys Targaryen (AKA Daenerys Stormborn, Mother of Dragons, Khaleesi) was the daughter of King Aerys II. She appears in the Song of Ice and Fire book series and was played by Emilia Clarke on the HBO show Game of Thrones. Daenerys sought to reclaim the Iron Throne for House Targaryen. She was aided in her quest by legions of followers and her three dragons Viserion, Rhaegal and Drogon.
Aerys II Targaryen (AKA The Mad King) was King of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros before Robert Baratheon's rebellion. He died before the setting of the Song of Ice and Fire book series and HBO show Game of Thrones. Aerys was plotting to destroy the entire capital of King's Landing with wildfire rather than be conquered by Robert Baratheon. Jaime Lannister killed him before he got the chance.

Rhaenyra Targaryen is the daughter of Viserys I Targaryen and Aemma Arryn. Her father names her heir to the Iron Throne in spite of the tradition of naming male successors. She rides the dragon Syrax.
Rhaenyra is played by Milly Alcock and Emma D'Arcy in the HBO series House of the Dragon.
Daemon Targaryen is the younger brother of Viserys I Targaryen and the second husband of Rhaenyra Targaryen. He believes himself to be his brother's heir to the Iron Throne, but Viserys names his daughter Rhaenyra instead. He rides the dragon Caraxes.
Daemon is played by Matt Smith in the HBO series House of the Dragon.
At the start of House of the Dragon, Viserys I Targaryen was King of the Seven Kingdoms. He named his daughter, Rhaenyra, heir to the Iron Throne. He rode the dragon Balerion.
Viserys I is played by Paddy Considine in the HBO series House of the Dragon.

Alicent Hightower is the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of Viserys I, and Rhaenyra Targaryen's former best friend. After Aemma's death, Viserys marries Alicent.
Alicent is played by Emily Carey and Olivia Cooke on the HBO series House of the Dragon.
Aegon II is the son of Viserys I Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. Per Targaryen tradition, he is married to his sister Helaena. He rides the dragon Sunfyre.
Alicent, mishearing Viserys's dying words, makes it her mission to see Aegon on the Iron Throne. She gets her wish after some skillful maneuvering, crowning him King Aegon II.
Aegon is played by Ty Tennant and Tom Glynn-Carney in the HBO series House of the Dragon.
