Superstar quarterback, Manning spent most of his days in New Orleans running for his life behind porous offensive lines and had little talent at the skill position. It took the Saints nearly 20 years to make the playoffs. Behind the intimidating Dome Patrol linebacking crew, which was featured some of the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/top-25-greatest-linebackers-of-all-time">best linebackers of all time</a>, the Saints went to the playoffs four times in six seasons.It took until Drew Brees arrived in 2006 for the Saints franchise to finally hit their stride. Behind one of the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/top-nfl-quarterbacks-2012">best quarterbacks in the NFL</a>, the Saints reached the NFC Championship Game that year. The team's fortunes improved as they slowly added the greatest players in Saints history. Finally, in 2009, one of the best Saints teams ever captured something that many thought wasn't possible: a Super Bowl title. Behind Brees, wide receiver Marques Colston and a high-flying offense, the Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. Drew Brees

Drew Christopher Brees (; born January 15, 1979) is an American football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). After a successful college football career at Purdue University, he was chosen by the San Diego Chargers with the first pick in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He left college as one of the most decorated players in Purdue and Big Ten Conference history, establishing two NCAA records, 13 Big Ten Conference records, and 19 Purdue University records. As of 2018, he remains the Big Ten record-holder in several passing categories, including completions (1,026), attempts (1,678), and yards (11,792). For his many career accomplishments and records, Brees has been hailed as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.Brees earned the starting job with the Chargers in 2002 and made the Pro Bowl in 2004. Nine months after suffering a dislocation in his right shoulder joint and a tear of the labrum and rotator cuff, Brees signed with the Saints as a free agent in 2006. He had immediate success in New Orleans, eventually leading the Saints to their first Super Bowl in Super Bowl XLIV, resulting in a 31–17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Since joining the Saints, he has led all NFL quarterbacks in touchdowns, passing yards, and 300-yard games. Brees holds the NFL records for career pass completions, career completion percentage, career passing yards, is second in career touchdown passes, third in regular season career passer rating, and fourth in postseason career passer rating. In 2012, he broke Johnny Unitas' long-standing record of consecutive games with a touchdown pass. He has passed for over 5,000 yards in a season five times—no other NFL quarterback has done so more than once. He has led the NFL in passing yards a record seven times and in passing touchdowns a record-tying four times. He was the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year in 2004, the Offensive Player of the Year in 2008 and 2011, and the MVP of Super Bowl XLIV. Sports Illustrated named Brees its 2010 Sportsman of the Year.

Archie Manning

Elisha Archibald Manning III (born May 19, 1949) is an American former football quarterback who played professionally for 13 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints from 1971 to 1982, and for short stints with the Houston Oilers and Minnesota Vikings. In college, he played for the Ole Miss Rebels football team at the University of Mississippi, and was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Manning is the father of Cooper Manning, former quarterback Peyton Manning, and current New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. Peyton and Eli have each won two Super Bowls.

Bobby Hebert

Bobby Joseph Hebert Jr. (surname pronounced ay-bear; born August 19, 1960) is an American sportscaster and former American football quarterback. He played professionally in the United States Football League (USFL) and National Football League (NFL) from 1983 to 1996 for the Michigan Panthers, Oakland Invaders, New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Falcons. Nicknamed the "Cajun Cannon", Hebert led the Panthers to the USFL championship in the league's inaugural season. Later he helped bring the Saints their first winning season and playoff appearance in franchise history. Hebert was inducted to the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

Aaron Brooks

Aaron Lafette Brooks (born March 24, 1976) is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL).  He played college football at Virginia and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round of the 1999 NFL Draft.
Brooks spent most of his career with the New Orleans Saints, and his final season with the Oakland Raiders. Brooks retired in 2007 as the Saints' franchise leader in both season and career touchdown passes, though both records have since been broken by Drew Brees.

Teddy Bridgewater

Theodore Bridgewater Jr. is an American football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Louisville, and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, with whom he made a Pro Bowl. 

Billy Kilmer

William Orland Kilmer, Jr. (born September 5, 1939) is a former American football quarterback in the National Football League for the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, and  Washington Redskins.  He played college football at UCLA.

Jake Delhomme

Jake Christopher Delhomme (; born January 10, 1975) is a former American football quarterback who played professionally in the National Football League (NFL). Delhomme played college football at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, then known as the University of Southwestern Louisiana, before being signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent after the 1997 NFL Draft. Delhomme began his professional career as a practice squad player with the Saints in 1997 and 1998 and played in the NFL Europe for two years in between NFL seasons. Returning to the Saints, Delhomme played his first NFL games in 1999. Delhomme played as the Carolina Panthers starting quarterback  from 2003 to 2009. Delhomme held most of Carolina's quarterback records until Cam Newton broke most of them. Delhomme led the team to Super Bowl XXXVIII in his first season with Carolina. After his departure from Carolina, Delhomme also played for the Cleveland Browns in 2010 and Houston Texans in 2011.

Ken Stabler

Kenneth Michael Stabler (December 25, 1945 – July 8, 2015), nicknamed "the Snake", was an American football quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Oakland Raiders (1970–1979), Houston Oilers (1980–1981) and New Orleans Saints (1982–1984). He played college football for the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Stabler quarterbacked the Raiders to victory in Super Bowl XI, was the 1974 NFL Most Valuable Player and was selected as a quarterback for the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team. Stabler was posthumously elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.

Chase Daniel

William Chase Daniel (born October 7, 1986) is an American football quarterback for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Missouri and was signed by the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent in 2009. Daniel has also played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, and the New Orleans Saints.

Jim Everett

James Samuel Everett III (born January 3, 1963) is a former professional American football quarterback who played for twelve seasons in the National Football League (NFL).
Everett attended Purdue University and was selected as the third pick in the first round of the 1986 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers, as the first quarterback taken that year. Unable to work out a contract agreement with Everett, the Oilers traded his rights to the Los Angeles Rams, with whom Everett played from 1986 to 1993. He then played with the New Orleans Saints from 1994 to 1996 and ended his career with a stint with the San Diego Chargers in 1997.

John Fourcade

John Charles Fourcade, Jr. (born October 11, 1960) is a former professional American football quarterback in the National Football League for the New Orleans Saints and recent head coach of the New Mexico Stars of American Indoor Football. Fourcade was the most valuable player of the 1982 Senior Bowl after passing for 115 yards and running for 33 yards and two touchdowns. He had gained 6,713 yards at Ole Miss from 1978–1981, breaking the career record of Archie Manning.

Jeff Blake

Jeff Bertrand Coleman Blake (born December 4, 1970) is a retired American football quarterback who played in the National Football League.  Although he finished his career with the Chicago Bears, he was formerly a quarterback for the New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Jets out of East Carolina University.
His only Pro Bowl appearance came with the Bengals in 1995, when he was selected for the AFC team. In that contest, Blake threw a Pro Bowl record-long 92-yard touchdown pass to Yancey Thigpen.

Steve Walsh

Stephen John Walsh (born December 1, 1966) is an American football coach and former player. He is a former quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, St. Louis Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts. He played college football at the University of Miami.

Mark Brunell

Mark Allen Brunell (born September 17, 1970) is an American football coach and former quarterback who is the current head coach at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville. He was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 1993 NFL Draft. He played college football at Washington.
Brunell was a three-time Pro Bowl selection with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has also played for the Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets. In 2009, he earned a Super Bowl ring as the backup quarterback and holder for the Saints' Super Bowl XLIV winning team against the Indianapolis Colts.

Karl Sweetan

Karl Robert Sweetan (October 2, 1942 in Dallas, Texas – July 2, 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada) was a professional NFL quarterback who played in five NFL seasons from 1966 to 1970 for 3 teams. He is tied with several other players for the record longest pass completion (99 yards to Pat Studstill on October 16, 1966) against the Colts.  However, the Lions lost 45-14 in front of 60,238 fans at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. It is notable that he was the first non-Redskins quarterback to accomplish this feat. He was the Lions starting quarterback during the filming of the movie Paper Lion. He also saw playing time in the Canadian Football League with the 1964 Toronto Argonauts. Sweetan also gained notoriety of sorts later when it was alleged that he tried to sell an NFL football playbook to another team; however, the charge was not proven.

Dave Wilson

David Carlton Wilson (born April 27, 1959) is a former professional American football player who played with the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL) from 1981 to 1989. A 6'3", 206 lb (93 kg) quarterback from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, Wilson was selected by the Saints in the first round of the 1981 supplemental draft.

Todd Bouman

Todd Matthew Bouman (; born August 1, 1972) is a former American football quarterback. He was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 1997. He played college football at St. Cloud State. Bouman also played for the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, St. Louis Rams and Baltimore Ravens.

Billy Joe Hobert (born January 8, 1971) is a former professional American football quarterback; he played nine seasons in the  National Football League with four teams, primarily as a reserve.

Gary Cuozzo

Gary Samuel Cuozzo (born April 26, 1941) is a former professional American football player. An undrafted quarterback from the University of Virginia,  Cuozzo played in 10 NFL seasons from 1963 to 1972.  He began his NFL career on the Baltimore Colts as a backup to Johnny Unitas. When Unitas was injured in 1965, Cuozzo replaced him until getting sidelined by injury as well, forcing coach Don Shula to use running back Tom Matte as an emergency quarterback.
He was traded to the expansion team New Orleans Saints in 1967, where he was the first starting quarterback in the franchise's history. However, the trade was disastrous for New Orleans, which gave away the first overall pick in the 1967 NFL draft to the Colts, who used it to select Michigan State All-American Bubba Smith, who became an All-Pro and was Baltimore's starting left defensive end in Super Bowl III and V.
After losing the Saints' starting job later in 1967 to Billy Kilmer, he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings. He became the Vikings' starting quarterback in 1970 when Joe Kapp, the team's Most Valuable Player in 1969, held out and was traded to the Boston Patriots. Cuozzo was named NFC Player of the Week for leading the Vikings to a 27-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of Super Bowl IV in the season opener.
The 1970 Vikings posted the NFL's best regular season record at 12-2, but lost in an NFC Divisional playoff game to the San Francisco 49ers at home. In 1971, Cuozzo could not hold on to his starting job, sharing duties with Norm Snead and Bob Lee. The Vikings went 11-3 in the regular season and lost in the divisional playoffs at home to the eventual Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys.
After the 1971 season, the Vikings reacquired Fran Tarkenton from the New York Giants, with Snead and the Vikings' leading receiver from 1971, Bob Grim, going to the Big Apple. Tarkenton played his first six seasons (1961-66) in Minnesota, coinciding with the Vikings' first six seasons in the NFL. 
Cuozzo was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in the deal which sent fleet wide receiver John Gilliam to the Vikings. Cardinals coach Bob Hollway was familiar with Cuozzo, having served as Minnesota's defensive coordinator under Bud Grant prior to leaving for St. Louis in 1971.  
Cuozzo was part of a chaotic four-quarterback rotation with Jim Hart, Pete Beathard, and Tim Van Galder in 1972, but when Don Coryell took over as Cardinals coach in 1973, he named Hart the undisputed starter, and he would hold the job into the 1980s.
Following his retirement in 1973, Cuozzo moved to Middletown Township, New Jersey, to start an orthodontics practice.
In 1990, his oldest son Gary Jr., a/k/a Chip, was murdered in Miami during a drug deal, and Cuozzo gave talks to teens about avoiding drugs.  He served as national chairman of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes from 1995 to 1998.Cuozzo played high school football at Glen Ridge High School in Glen Ridge, New Jersey.

Wade Wilson

Charles Wade Wilson (February 1, 1959 – February 1, 2019) was an American football coach and previously a quarterback who played for the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders in a seventeen-year career from 1981 to 1998 in the National Football League (NFL). He was quarterbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys from 2000 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2017 and the Chicago Bears from 2004 to 2006. He played college football for Texas A&M University-Commerce (formerly East Texas State University), where he was an NAIA All-American Quarterback and led the Lions to the NAIA national semifinals during the 1980 season.

Kerry Collins

Kerry Michael Collins (born December 30, 1972) is a former American football quarterback who played 17 seasons in the National Football League (NFL).  He played college football for Penn State University and earned All-American honors.  He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers with the fifth overall pick of the 1995 NFL Draft, the first choice in the franchise's history.
He also played for the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans, and Indianapolis Colts. He defeated every NFL team except the Miami Dolphins during his career, and threw for over 200 touchdowns. He led the New York Giants to an appearance in Super Bowl XXXV, where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 34–7. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

Luke McCown

Lucas Patrick McCown (born July 12, 1981) is a former American football quarterback. He played college football for the Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs, and was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, and a brief stint with Dallas Cowboys. He is the younger brother of NFL quarterback Josh McCown and former Texas A&M quarterback Randy McCown.

Bobby Douglass

Robert Gilchrist Douglass (born June 22, 1947) is a former American football quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) who played most of his career with the Chicago Bears, who drafted him in the second round of the 1969 NFL Draft. During his career, he also played for the San Diego Chargers, the New Orleans Saints, the Oakland Raiders, and Green Bay Packers. Douglass retired after the 1979 season, after playing 11 seasons in the NFL.
Douglass was raised in El Dorado, Kansas, where his father was a football coach and attended the University of Kansas. Douglass was a two-time All-Big Eight Conference (1967–68) selection and an All-American in 1968. During his senior season, Douglass directed the Jayhawks to a 9–2 record, a share of the Big Eight Conference title and a spot in the 1969 Orange Bowl. He passed for 1,316 yards and 12 touchdowns during his final year as a Jayhawk and finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting that season.In 1972, playing for the Chicago Bears, Douglass set the record for most rushing yards by a QB in one season. The record stood for 34 years. In a 14-game 1972 season, he ran for 968 yards and 8 touchdowns on 141 carries. Four QBs (three in the CFL, one in the NFL) have since run for over 1,000 yards. With Douglass starting, the Chicago Bears had only a 13–31–1 record.In a November 4, 1973, game against the Green Bay Packers, Douglass ran for four touchdowns in a 31-17 win.  He and Billy Kilmer are the only quarterbacks in NFL history to rush for four touchdowns in a single game.
In five seasons from 1971–1975, Douglass played in 47 games and amassed 2,040 rushing yards. During that span, he averaged 43.4 rushing yards per game played—the third highest rushing yards per game average over a five-season span for a QB. (Michael Vick ranks first with 54.1 yds/g over a five-season span from 2002-2006).
However, Douglass had little success as a passer, going 507-for-1178 for 36 touchdowns and 64 interceptions with a quarterback passer rating of only 48.5 during his 11-season NFL career.
After his NFL career was over, Douglass briefly played minor league baseball in the Chicago White Sox organization. In 1980, he pitched four games for the Iowa Oaks where he had 7 innings pitched, issued 13 walks and failed to record a strikeout.



Guido Merkens

Guido Albert Merkens, Jr. (born August 14, 1955 in San Antonio, Texas) is a former professional American football player who played quarterback, running back, wide receiver, punter and defensive back for ten seasons for the Houston Oilers, New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL.
Merkens was a 1973 graduate of Edison High School in San Antonio, then played both quarterback and defensive back for Sam Houston State University.  His versatility became a hallmark of his professional career.  In his first two seasons in the NFL, he was primarily a punt return specialist. During his tenure with the Saints, he served as the third-string quarterback, holder for field goals and special teams player; with occasional time as a wide receiver, punter or safety.  His penchant for being the emergency backup for all of the aforementioned positions earned him the reputation of a "jack of all trades".Merkens' father, Guido Sr., served as founding pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church in San Antonio and was a vice-president of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.In 2007, the Houston Chronicle reported that Merkens was working as the general manager of a CarMax dealership in the city.

Danny Wuerffel

Daniel Carl Wuerffel (born May 27, 1974) is a former college and professional American football quarterback who won the 1996 Heisman Trophy and the 1996 national football championship while playing college football for the University of Florida. Wuerffel was a prolific passer in coach Steve Spurrier's offense. He led the nation in touchdown passes in 1995 and 1996, and set numerous school and conference records. Wuerffel was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
After graduating from Florida, Wuerffel was drafted by the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He spent six years in the league with four teams, finding limited success as a backup and an occasional starter. He also played a season in NFL Europe, where he led the Rhein Fire to a league championship and was named MVP of World Bowl 2000.
Wuerffel last played professional football in 2002, officially retiring in 2004. He returned to New Orleans to work with Desire Street Ministries, a nonprofit organization that seeks to help impoverished neighborhoods through spiritual and community development. Wuerffel had first become involved with the organization while playing for the Saints in the late 1990s, and as the organization attempted to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, he became its executive director. Under Wuerffel, Desire Street Ministries moved its headquarters to Atlanta and expanded its programs to other inner cities in the American south.
