List Rules Vote up the greatest gods from Roman mythology

While derived from the Greek pantheon, Roman gods and goddess still have their own unique flair. In fact, the two-faced god Janus was claimed by the Romans to have no Greek equivalent. The Roman gods served the same purpose as their Grecian counterparts, to interpret natural phenomena and explore the human condition. The Romans even went as far as to use the gods to explain the creation of their empire which was spawned from, Romulus and Remus the twin sons of Mars, the Roman god of war. Beyond the origin story of Rome, Roman mythology was often centered around politics, morality, and one's responsibility to the state.

You may notice that some of the Roman gods and goddesses share names with the planets. This allowed Roman gods to be ever present and represented by actual cosmic bodies. As with Greek gods, the family tree of the Roman gods is diverse and sorted. You'll see that Jupiter had many consorts and therefore spawned several gods by both immortal deities and mortal women.

Vote up the gods and goddesses you like the best from Roman mythology because of the stories associated with them, what they represent, or simply because of their name.
